Aqua Roofing

I put in a tender to have 2 roof tiles replaced on 22/12/23. Walter contacted me almost immediately when I posted the job through Bark. com. He visited my home but did not go on the roof to inspect but said he could do the work on 27/12/23 and it would cost me £250.

He seemed like a friendly trustworthy guy so I agreed for him to do the work. On arrival he asked me if I had an outside tap so his employee Will, could mix up some cement. I thought this was strange as you don't need cement to replace roof tiles as roofing screws are used?

Shortly after Walter called me out to my driveway and said your ridge tiles need doing and said it is an expensive job as it is £200 per ridge tile, which was approx 7-9. He then told me that it will now cost me £1,700 in total.

His employee continued with the work and when it was completed in less than 1 hour he then said the price is now £2,100 but I will give you a discount of £100. I paid him £2,000 thinking he had replaced new ridge tiles. When he left, I looked at my roof and could see that my existing roof ridge tiles had only been messily cemented and it looked awful. To say, I was shocked and dismayed is an understatement.

Another reputable roofer had inspected my roof in June 2023 due to a missing roof tile and provided me with photographs. I asked if he could check my roof as I wasn't happy with the work carried out and needed to know what I had paid £2,000 for? He inspected it and took photographs of Walter's work and confirmed that the re-cementing was a total mess and certainly did not need doing. He told me that if I did need the ridge tiles re-cemented and 2 roof tiles the most it would have cost would have been £500 if done properly. He has provided me with a letter to corroborate and verify his findings.

He told me that no new ridge tiles had been replaced. He also informed me that only 1 roof tile had been replaced not 2 which I requested in my tender.

I also discovered a part of my guttering had been dislodged after he left. I gave Walter the opportunity to justify why he had carried out work that I didn't ask for or request?

After several phone calls, Walter said he would sort out the return of my money as I was only prepared to pay him £400 in total (being £200 for 1 replaced roof tile and reluctantly, £200 for the shoddy re-cementing and unnecessary work he had carried out). Apart from turning up to fix the guttering back in place and putting mastic around the gutter bracket he has so far made no attempt to refund any money as he said he doesn't have it at the moment and can't even say when?

He has since offered to replace new guttering and only charge me for the parts. Obviously, I have declined. Judging from the inept roofing work I cannot trust Walter to do any further work on my house.

I cannot and will not accept being ripped off. I feel Walter has exploited me being a lady living on her own and knowing full well I am not of an age to go climbing on a roof.

I asked him if I was your Mother, would you be happy and allow someone to do this her!

After emergency call on Boxing day .The problems with roof were clearly explained.The price to do the work was agreed. The following day work was completed, by my team . Work was done to a high standard. Both myself and customer were happy. After a few months, has passed. Customer called me saying she had a friend who could have completed job cheaper. I explained that im a professional roofer, with work guarantees etc . The customer was very rude , and demanded a refund, despite being happy with the work . From there I began to receive threatening phone calls , from family members. Hence bad review .

After several request he didn't send official quotation. He thinks it's waste of time. I know professional will disagree. During the work he called me and asking for extra £300 for minor repair or my problem of leak will not solve . That's an extortion. After work he didn't send any pictures of work done normally a roofer always does. He wanted money without sending an invoice which I rejected. then he send the invoice from a different company email address and it looks like made up. More...

I don’t leave negative reviews lightly but I was really disappointed with the approach of Aqua Roofing, and certainly wouldn’t be recommending them or using them again. The first issue I have is that they low-balled the quote significantly when we initially spoke on the phone. Estimates are notoriously difficult, but when they were half way through the 3 hour job, the cost jumped to 3x the original quoted value. To be honest, I wouldn’t have minded paying for the job if it had fixed the leak near my Velux window. Unfortunately, a few days later when it rained again, water was still coming through in the same place inside our loft room. No problems said Walter – if it’s leaking in the same place we’ll fix it free of charge. Great. Except when he turned up and got on the roof, he told my wife (I was out) that in fact his fix had worked - even though it was still leaking. This was because in the 4 days since they fixed the leak, apparently 3 other holes had appeared and caused the water to leak through in the same place. So even though the leak was coming through in the same place inside, it wasn’t actually leaking in the same place so it would be an additional cost to fix this, another 1.5x – 2x the original estimate over the phone. I’m not expecting miracles, but I wasn’t born yesterday – it felt more likely that the holes were there all along and they were simply missed when the original job was done, and so it was still leaking. It felt like they could have done a much more thorough job when they were up there in the first place, and resolved all of the issues. Just to be clear, I’m not so annoyed that the leak wasn’t fixed – roofing is not an exact art. I’m annoyed that having paid them for what other roofers I have contacted have considered a very profitable day rate, they then spent a morning on the job – away before lunch time – but didn't resolve the issue.

Needless to say, I’ve decided that paying them to have another go at it would be good money after bad.

In the interests of openness, they did also do some additional cementing of the ride tiles for an additional fee separate to the Velux element to the job, for which they were paid additionally. There don’t seem to be any issues with the cement work they did on the ridge tiles. More...

Hi , after agreeing to do the works . Work was completed, Richard was happy. And paid for work carried out . However after a few weeks, he rang stating roof was still leaking in same place. As the work I carried out is guaranteed, I offered to fix free of charge. On closer inspection we found the leak to be coming in from a separate area of roof .When I explained, with photographic evidence. I did offer to fix new leak , at a reduced cost . As I was already at the property. He decided he would think about it and call at a later date . Haven’t heard from him until this negative review. Arrived when they said they would and fixed missing/broken roof tiles. Also did a full check of the roof identifying a number of other issues which needed to be fixed. I would recommend them!
