Appollo gas services have fitted a new Baxi boiler for me today. The service has been impeccable throughout, from arranging a visit for quotation purposes, to a date for fitting. The office staff are lovely, three great lads arrived spot on 8:30 am and the job was all done by 3:30 pm The old water tanks and boiler were taken away along with every scrap of rubbish. The roofer did his job and reported the condition of my roof to me, along with a video he had taken. Everything was left clean and tidy, no sign that they had been apart from a lovely warm house. Called wanting help with a leaky boiler and loss of pressure at our busy clinic and within 12 hours Paul came to our assistance, with a convenient reminder call when he was on his way, fixed there and then with part he had available in van, helped let pressure out of upstairs rads that had been cold for ages, all done in 30 mins super impressed with the service and expertise, highly recommend.

Awful experience. My boiler stopped working on the 30th October. The remote programmer was intermittently cutting in and out and we could not operate it. We rang Appollo who sent a boiler technician around. He done some checks and and told us that it required new parts coming in at £432. The parts where fitted and still my boiler did not work. A link was fitted and the remote programmer was disconnected , effectively forcing the boiler on. We could operate the boiler but only on the control panel itself. We where told it needed a new remote programmer fitted. Several days passed and after numerous phone calls to Appollo we never received a return phone call to tell us when the new item would be fitted. Eventually the boiler stopped working altogether. Appollo finally came around and said they would fit the new programmer. 20 mins later I was asked to come downstairs where there was a thick smell of achrid smoke. The boiler technician told us "Oh, that's probably the control board burnout". He subsequently told us, while putting his jacket on, that there was nothing else he, or Appollo, could do and we had to get the manufactures in to fix it. So we where left with a boiler, in a worse condition than when we rang Appollo, with a burnt out control board and the fuses removed and being told we had to go elsewhere to get it fixed. At a cost of nearly £600 to ourselves. Disgraceful. Several days later the Valiant Engineer arrived and confirmed the control board had been blown. He replaced the board and installed a new remote programmer, without issue, and the boiler nows works properly. There is high and low voltages going in boilers, so it's quite evident what's happened when Appollo attempted to fit the programmer. Overall I am close to £1000 down for what should of been a £250 programmer refit. Terrible experience start to finish. Will never use Appollo again. UPDATED TO RESPONCE The review is factual and accurate. Firstly, the boiler had only just turned 5 year old and was serviced annually. Far from an old boiler as you incorrectly claim. Secondly, there was no indication that the board was burnt out prior to your arrival. We let your guy in and left him to it, it wasn't until he summoned us come down stairs when we smelt it and had all the downstairs power tripped off at the fuse boxes, that he informed us the board may of gone. We certainly where not sitting with the power tripped off before you arrived. You claim the board had gone prior to your arrival but you still attempted to wire up the new programmer and subsequently de-wire it and take it with you when you left after the board was blown. Attempting to fit a new programmer to boiler with a blown card? That's a contradiction in itself. You offered a Vaillant 418 boiler for nearly £3800 (that's including the the near £600 we already paid you). I got a qoute elsewhere, same boiler fitted for £2100. Again we paid nearly £600 to for absolutely nothing. Had to get another engineer from a different company in he had it up and running again in 45 mins which was another £400. More...

UNNECESSARY HIGH CHARGES AND WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE The Appollo Gas Service told me they charge £82.80 for Boiler service. I called them in as my boiler wasn't working. The engineer came and said the fan has stopped working. They asked me to make a payment of £82.80 immediately before they could look to replace it, which I did. The next day, they gave me a quote of around £450 to replace the fan and said £82.80 will get deducted from the total amount when they replace the fan. As the charge for fan replacement was high and my boiler was 18 years old, I decided to get the boiler replaced. I asked them and the other providers for boiler replacement quote. Appollo quote was way higher than other prividers so I didn't go ahead with them. When I called Appollo Gas service regarding the full service cost I paid (£82.80) to them and asked to deduct visit charge only (as there was no service done and visit lasted only 15 minutes), and return me the rest of money, they simply denied it and said that's our callout charge irrespective of service done or not. I highly encourage anyone reading this review to avoid doing any business with Appollo Gas Service as they will charge you the highest price possible and rip you off. Poor service, failed to repair fault at first visit. Appolo then charged twice for a call out fee, and £120 for a spare part (an air pressure value that was worth £7. 00). They e mailed to see that they would be happy to offer my next years service free of charge and now it is due refuse to carry out the service. Service
To ensure that it’s running safely and efficiently, your boiler should be serviced as often as once a year. Not having your boiler serviced could lead to faults, higher energy bills and your warranty ending early.

How often should I service my boiler?
Gas boilers should be serviced once a year. This annual service is an opportunity for a qualified heating engineer to look over the unit and make sure it’s running as well as possible. This will give you the peace of mind that your heating system is running safely and efficiently. In addition if you have new boiler under extended warranty it is necessary to have an annual service to maintain the validity of the warranty.

If you are a landlord then having the boiler and flue system serviced annually in the properties you rent out is a legal requirement.

Who should service a boiler?
A boiler must be serviced by a fully-qualified heating engineer and qualification they should hold will depend on the type of boiler you have installed in your home.
Gas boilers
A Gas Safe Registered engineer is the only person qualified to service a gas boiler.

Gas boilers are an efficient and reliable way to heat your home and provide hot water, but when they go wrong you realise just how much you depend on them!

Double Panel Radiators

Double panel radiators, as the name suggests, have two panels on the outside to distribute heat rather than one. As a result, the double panel has a larger surface area to emit heat from, so it will have a higher heat output than a single panel radiator and is therefore much more efficient. Double panel radiators can also help you save wall space in your home. Rather than needing a large single panel radiator, you can get the same heat output from a much smaller double panel.

Invest In Thermostatic Radiator Valves

Thermostatic radiator valves (TRV’s) can help your radiators work more efficiently by automatically regulating the temperature. Unlike conventional valves which need to be adjusted manually, a TRV can detect when the temperature in the room is too hot or cold and adjust the flow of water to the radiator accordingly. This will help you achieve efficiency as you won’t be wasting energy turning radiators too high, only to turn them down or off again.

Radiator Size and Efficiency

One of the most crucial things to consider when choosing the most efficient radiator is size. Having the correct sized radiator for the room you intend to heat will ensure no energy is wasted.

Larger radiators will often be more efficient. This is because they have a larger surface area to radiate heat, so the water inside them doesn’t need to be as warm as in a smaller radiator to generate the same amount of heat. This also means your boiler won’t need to work as hard, so you’ll save money on your heating bills.

However, it’s important to remember that if your radiator is too large for the room, the high levels of energy required to heat up the large amount of water inside it will likely outweigh what’s needed, which will lead to falls in efficiency.

Why powerflush?
If sludge and debris is not removed from heating systems, it can accumulate in radiators, pipework and heat exchangers, causing severe blockages. This diminishes the transfer of heat and can result in pipe, radiator valve and heating control servo valve damage. In some cases this will eventually lead to the premature failure of the boiler.

Powerflushing is a popular method of cleaning and maintaining a central heating system. A powerflushing unit sends water at high velocity through the system to dislodge and remove debris, limescale, and sludge build-up. A thorough powerflush will improve heat distribution throughout the property, subsequently lowering household energy bills and increasing system reliability.


What is a CP12?
A landlord’s Gas Safety certificate is also referred to as a CP12. CP12 is short for CORGI Proforma 12, and comes from when CORGI was the UK’s statutory gas safety body. Today we simply refer to it as the Gas Safe Register.

CP 12 Certification
By law all landlords must have each gas appliance in their properties checked and serviced on a regular basis, usually yearly, by a Gas Safe registered engineer. All of Appollo Gas Services’ engineers are Gas Safe registered.

What information does the CP12 record contain?
As a minimum, the record of a gas safety check must contain:
description and location of each appliance and/or flue checked
name, registration number and signature of the engineer who carried out the check
date on which the appliance and/or flue was checked
the address of the property at which the appliance and/or flue is installed
the name and address of the landlord (or his agent where appropriate)
any defect identified and any action required or taken to fix it
confirmation of the results of operational safety checks carried out on the appliances

SMART Heating

One of the most innovative developments in home heating is the appearance of the smart heating system. While most heating systems come with a thermostat, which have basic programmable features to help regulate the room temperatures, smart heating systems go far beyond these basics.

A smart heating system will operate only when required, and automatically turn off when no longer needed. Smart heating can be programmed to turn off at certain times, or even controlled directly from your smartphone. You also have the option of regulating the heat in individual rooms if you wish.

The biggest advantage of smart heating is that it puts you in control of your heating. Your smartphone becomes the master heating controller, which means that you can control your heating system from wherever you are – on the bus returning from work or even returning from holiday – ensuring a warm cosy welcome when you step through the door.

TRV Valves
To control your heating from your phone on a room-by-room basis, you’ll need a smart radiator valve (thermostatic radiator valve or TRV). Here are our recommendations.

There’s a reason smart heating is growing in popularity. Not only will it give you more control over the temperature in your home – so it’s always warm when you want it to be – but you can easily monitor your heat and potentially make savings on your energy bills.

A smart radiator valve is a relativelysmall investment. Each one will allow you to control a single room, which means you can schedule heating so that it’s warm when it needs to be and no heat is wasted the rest of the time.

Being able to see the temperature clearly on your phone screen or on the device itself, instead of crawling around trying to decipher the lines on a standard radiator valve, gives you much more control over the heat output. Plus, many smart TRVs allow you to use voice control, via your Alexa or Google Assistant.

They’re also a great option for people in rented accommodation, or those who don’t want to get a full smart home heating system installed.
