About

My informal, patient and encouraging style enables me to build a rapport with most students of various levels and backgrounds.

NB Although I'm new to Bark, I have numerous references and testimonials from parents via tutoring platforms and agencies.

Q&As

I enjoy travelling around and forming a relationship with the students and their parents.

The most rewarding part, though, is when a student tells me: "Hey, Andrew, I get it now!", especially when they've previously been struggling.

I was still several years short of retirement age, and recalled that many people had described me as a "born teacher", so I thought I'd give it a go. I couldn't command a whole class (which is why I'd never considered teaching as a career, despite one young lady telling me that I was "much better" than her Maths teacher at her [private] school); however, 1-to-1 (or possibly very small groups) works well for me.

My students invariably get to like me and enjoy their lessons, even if sometimes they're initially shy or adverse to the idea of tutoring. I'm very patient and encouraging, and the lessons are fun.
Many of my references and testimonials bear this out.

NB: see my website at www.weybridge-home-tutor.co.uk

I've mostly taught on a 1-to-1 basis in students' homes, although I'm now planning to offer online teaching - once I can master "screen-sharing" and the like!

This question is a bit dated now, but I used to wear a mask and follow the parents' guidelines.

Services

I generally visit students in their homes for 1-1 tutorials, but am moving towards offering an online service as well.

Have successfully enabled students to gain entrance to the following schools (among others):

St George's (Weybridge)
St John's (Leatherhead)
Gordon's School (West End)
Harrow School
Charterhouse (Godalming)
Halliford School (Shepperton)

In recent years, I have gained a significant level of experience tutoring students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), notably autism and ADHD.

Whilst researching the conditions during Lockdown, I discovered (a fact subsequently confirmed by my doctor) that I was autistic myself. This enables me to empathise with such students and establish a rapport with them.

But whilst I can help children catch up if they are shy, nervous, uptight, lack self-belief or have been bullied at school, I'm reluctant to take on students with severe conditions as my success rate is much lower with them.
