We Chose Abbey Partnership of 1 Whaley Road Potters Bar EN6 2RA as they are near to our house and this has turned out to be the worst mistake of our lives. We discovered they used to run another similarly named company called Abbey Lofts Ltd but this recently went into liquidation due the company's failure to pay off a loan so people should note to start with, this company's directors are dishonest. Avoid them or you will regret it. They are in the habit of asking people for proof even though they take all monies in cash and therefore don't issue paperwork. The best proof would be to check out Abbey Lofts Limited at Company House Records and view under liquidations. The experience throughout our build has been nothing short of a stressful nightmare. We were fooled by the promises of quality, and taken in by the chit chat of their clever salesman. I've had every disaster you can think of and it has been complete disorder from start to finish with every single aspect of the works needing to be redone due to bad workmanship. A water pipe was cut and caused a flood down to the kitchen. There has been no project management and the level of incompetence of some tradespeople has been staggering. This so-called partnership actually attacks any of their clients who place adverse comments on review platforms. I have never had a response to my complaints from management. In fact, they point blank refused to talk to me. Things went from bad to worse in recent times as it seems Abbey Partnership stopped paying a number of their suppliers. We had their scaffold company visit us at home (and they are a rough gypsy traveller type bunch) and threated to remove our scaffold and then the building team walked off site. And after 4 weeks not a word from management. They were aware that my property was unsecured and open to the elements but they didn't care. Be warned and do not be taken in by their director's claims of being caring for his clients, he is not. I heard the same from my neighbours further down street. If that doesn't discourage you, you should know I am in active communication with 16 other dissatisfied and horrified Abbey Partnership customers and please consider all the bad reviews to be viewed online. The previous reviewers couldn't have put it better. This is the worst company we have ever dealt with. We are now in week 20 of an estimated 9-week build, and only because Abbey are too lazy to finish the job. We've asked for reasons for the delays and never been given any, not even any attempts to make up an excuse. Repeated requests for information are ignored, you will not be informed when people will attend your property, there will be long periods when no one will turn up and people will arrive unannounced, or not turn up when they say they will, if you try to complain they will just ignore your messages or put the phone down on you. I'm not entirely sure that Abbey are even aware of where our property key is most of the time, as most of the team who turn up don't have it. They will send you repeated emails asking for early payment because "they are ahead of schedule"; if you question it, staff will tell you they are "just acting on orders" and will put the phone down on you. As well as the shocking time¬scale so far, the plasterers work was really bad ¬ we have had to sand the walls ourselves! And they still don't look great, and pieces are crumbling off and cracking. The scaffolders broke our conservatory roof; we're still waiting for that to be fixed weeks later. The roofers were not toilet trained and peed on the floor. The guy who fitted the plasterboard cut himself and wiped the blood on the walls and on our clean towels. Someone else broke the tiles in our existing bathroom by drilling through them¬ we're still waiting for those to be fixed weeks later. The radiators were not installed straight and a different plumber had to come back and fix them. The shower leaked after being installed and caused a wet patch in the ceiling below. And the roof wasn't sealed properly, and during a storm leaked rainwater into the loft. Our downstairs hallway will have to be redecorated as the walls have been badly damaged with knocks and dents, and smeared with plaster (there was no reason for the plaster to be in that area, just carelessness on his part). We have recently heard from building control (who inspected the work weeks ago), to say that they are waiting for Abbey to send them the electrical certificates before they can sign the property off. We now have to chase Abbey to send this information. The latest response is that they are waiting for the certificates themselves. You will also need very special skills to understand any of the project manager's texts they think it's professional to correspond by text as they use little to no punctuation and are also never spell checked, and he clearly doesn't read them before sending. Avoid, there are hundreds of better loft companies. More...

This company uses 'internet cleaning' lawyers who intimidate people in to removing bad reviews, it's a bullying tactic that they used on me when I wrote a review on their Yellow Pages site. We have had to get the entire loft re done because it was dangerous and was not constructed according to specifications. We had to bring in our own architect and construction engineer to put right their terrible work. They subcontracted all the work out despite saying they did not. My very strong advice would not to touch them with a barge pole. I know of another two conversions they did that went seriously wrong too. If you check them out, they shut down Abbey Lofts Ltd and started Abbey Partnership Ltd. Their trade organisation website also lists them as a company falsely using a logo. They did a loft conversion with an en-suite bathroom for us. The shower tray leaked from the start. The tiles hadn't been put in properly and were cracked (we bought the tiles ourselves and they were expensive). They refused to do anything about it. It got so bad that it leaked through to the ceiling below dripping down the staircase causing the paintwork to peel away. Every time we had a shower we had to put towels downstairs to stop the water damaging anything else. In the end, we brought in other contractors to put their shoddy work right at a cost of £8,000. We tried to get the money back and even took them to court and got a Court Order against them. We instructed an enquiry agent to find them but they couldn't be found. Their registered office didn't exist and they hold no assets against which a judgement can be met. Another reviewer has pointed out that this company has had many names before; probably because they got so bad a reputation that they leave that name behind and just started again with a new one. I am shocked that anyone has anything good to say about them. I'm only giving them a star because I have to. Do not whatever you do get involved with these people. More...

Please don't try to make out that we are confusing your company for any others with similar names, we know exactly who you are as do your many other dissatisfied customers. You are certainly a master of spin and deception. Please don't reply to me or write on here saying you care for customers when you care for nothing except for your profits. We instructed Abbey Lofts Partnership to build our loft conversion after being impressed by their salesman. Once the deposit was paid and they'd done the drawings it was all handed over to a subcontractor. When problems began with the time schedule and our incompetent project manager, we repeatedly tried to get Abbey Lofts Partnership to be involved but they ignored all communications. The one and only time they got back in touch was after several emails when the subcontractor was trying to overcharge us for something already included in our quote from Abbey Lofts Partnership, other than that they completely ignored us while we went through an extremely difficult time with their subcontractors. The work wasn't up to scratch at all and we have experienced ongoing problems with leaks from the loft bathroom. I wrote a review a few weeks ago and within 10 minutes of posting it the director of Abbey called me up and became extremely angry, aggressive and demanded we take down the review. During this conversation he even asked us if we wanted our 10-year guarantee not realising that the subcontractor had already provided us with it for all the value it has which we find is none. He said I was an 'odd woman' who 'moaned all the time' yet he then said he hadn't read any of my emails and didn't know about all the problems we had been having. I would suggest you avoid THE ABBEY PARTNERSHIP LTD. (not a mistake with their name) at all costs as they are not to be trusted and are considered by many previous clients to be rogue traders. Abbey Lofts did an amazing loft conversion for us. We were very happy with Besi’s team who were assigned on our job from start to finish. They worked really hard and did a fantastic job on our loft, turning it into a kitchen / lounge. As with all building work, some issues arose, but they were always dealt with swiftly and professionally by Abbey. Anybody who came to do work (plumbers, electrician, decorators, etc) were top, highly skilled workers and very respectful and polite. Would highly recommend Abbey Lofts for a top loft conversion! After reading the other really bad reviews for this company, I must say my experience was exactly the same, if not worse. If I could have given zero stars I would but I was obliged to give a least one
. Do not trust this company! Abbey Partnership previously named Abbey Lofts went into voluntary liquidation, leaving the bank unpaid and pocketing thousands of pounds from clients without any work done; (see details of this company insolvency at company house on line records) It is a disaster of a company from start to finish and they lie all the time to their clients. I posted some photos of their shoddy work on Twitter and the company director threatened me and told me that I shouldn't make any further public comments about his company. I reported this to the police.
The company's negative reviews are prone to disappearing from the internet something I wish I had known about before using this company. I've noted many negative comments about Abbey that have since disappeared and other people before me have noted the same with reviews from years ago. The Abbey Partnership doesn't use its own builders, you find out a few days before the build starts that you actually have to sign a contract with a third-party company. When I complained to the appropriate regulatory body about the conduct of the builders, Abbey Partnership hid behind the defense that it wasn't responsible for the work it was just the middle-man who found us the builders. These builders disappeared for almost a month, working on another job Abbey had on the go. I was promised before I signed the contract that the works would take 8 weeks. But this was a nonsense, it was more like 8 months. Untrustworthy, they are abusive on phone and dishonest. We have been left with a leaking loft and damaged fabrics, as soon as you make the second, payment the customer service completely changes, it was a masterclass in how to do as little for as much money as possible. My advice to any member of the public is the same as many on here have given, avoid at all cost.

Its interesting to see such a variety of reviews on this site but comforting to note that we are not alone in our issues with The Abbey Partnership. Its also worthy of note that the good reviews are predominantly always displayed on Abbey's website. We were never allocated a project manager but left with the sales manager who made promises that he found hard to stick to and who left the company before our job was complete. Subsequent project managers did not respond and we had issues that took some considerable time to resolve. As others have commented, we too have had no response or poor responses and unkept promises. Most recently we alerted them to significantly cracking on our staircase, back many months now, which they never resolved and in the end we got fed up and fixed ourselves. The new project manager made several promises over several months to return to fix it but never bothered. Everyone we know has commented on how poor it has been that this company did not respond or return to rectify decoration faults, cracking etc. but once they have your money they are not interested. One of their contractors caused damage to the conservatory roof of ourselves and our neighbour and tried to cover it up so by the time it was discovered at the end of the job when scaffolding went we had water damage in our conservatory. It took weeks for Abbey Partnership to get someone back to sort and it also affected our neighbour, luckily, we have a very good relationship with them. They never offered to sort out the internal damage! Our job was finally completed in Oct/Nov having started on 2nd August, so rather than 6-8 weeks wasmore like 16-19, first fix was very fast but second fix very slow and issues hard to resolve. Some second fix contractors workmanship not great either. It seems Abbey took on too much work and had wholly inadequate project management to get things finalised and resolved but did nothing to take this pressure from their customers at all. The only time we heard from them was when their director wanted to very aggressively chase us for payments! In 12-19 weeks he visited on day one and final snag day only. The rest of the time it was text/email and not very pleasant most of the time. Its a pity he wasn't so responsive when we had problems. All we got from him was that the project had cost him money, I very much doubt it given what we paid. I would not recommend Abbey Partnership, I am sure there are overall far better and more consistently efficient companies out there. More...

Abbey Lofts have recently completed a loft conversion for us, and I have to say was immensely impressed by them. From day one, the communication was excellent, and the package was tailored to meet our exact requirements. I am a professional within the construction industry and have been for over 30yrs so I think it would be fair to say I understand the construction process. The site team were courteous and professional throughout the build and even assisted in moving some materials which were not part of their contract. They cleaned up after themselves and even agreed to start a little later when we asked them to. The management team were always at hand via a phone chat group and any variations were dealt with seamlessly. The work was completed on time, on budget and to an excellent standard. Even though ours was a shell only project I would have no hesitation in recommending Abbey for any type or style of loft conversion. They were knowledgeable, amiable and we also received complements from the neighbours, who commented on how polite they were. More...

This company, "Abbey Partnership" has a lot of bad reviews. I considered using them for my loft conversion but discovered their insolvency report documents just in time and read at the company house that "Abbey Lofts" had gone bust and were DISSOLVED in 2016.
My neighbours had a loft done by these people but were then concerned because their guarantees were not valid. This seems to be a big problem in the building industry with builders going under then starting up trading again with a similar sounding name. It is a way for dubious companies not to have an obligation to honour any of their previously issued guarantees. These newly formed companies (Abbey Partnership) often work out of the same offices as their previously liquidated company (Abbey Lofts). There isn't any such company in existence in the UK with the name of "Abbey Lofts" which is part of any Partnership.
People beware!

We have just had our loft conversion finished by Abbey Lofts. We cannot praise them highly enough really. From the initial discussions of what we wanted to achieve and what the options were through to the final hand-over we found all the people involved to be friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. If you decide to go with Abbey (and you should in our opinion) then try and get Lisi and Dori, the two guys who did most of the work on our loft. They are very good, hard working and cant do enough for you. They are totally trustworthy, they used to let themselves into our house if we wern't there for any reason. Steve at Abbey who is one of the bosses visited the job from time to time and kept us informed via whatsapp group of anything we needed to know. We took somewhat of a punt going with Abbey Loft instead of the firm that carried out the extension at our former house - and who actually did a fairly decent job. Well, can report that the gamble paid off in buckets & spades.Every minute spent in the pre-project consultation was realised with the exquisiteness of the finished article, the speed of execution and the surprisingly minimal upheaval given the scale of work - it’s a tad surreal returning from the office to meet your home cleaner than you left it - day in, day out.. the reliability & trustworthiness of Toni & his team was also quite refreshing & reassuring. Being a fixed price contract, we were also impressed by Abbeys disposition to oblige with better quality items than stipulated to the benefit of the project look & feel as a whole, and at zero, or marginal cost to us.To be quite frank, the only thing that truly impresses me more than the execution and finishing, is the look on the faces of friends & family when confronted with the new space - Priceless - With two looking to commission the firm imminently.Keep it up - Guy, Fred, Toni & Team... Abbey did a superb job of converting our loft and we highly recommend them. The work was of a very high standard and 3 months after completion, we still get knocked out each time we enter the new space! They were a great team with a lead builder coordinating the activities of the various other tradespeople that came and went at different points of the project. Most of them have worked together at Abbey for many years, always a good sign in our opinion. In many ways, they are a family business. We wanted a redesign at the end of week 1 of the project (to make the space more open plan) and Abbey handled this change with ease.Customer service and focus was great from early sales engagement all the way through the build stage. Not only were the builders always available to discuss aspects of the construction as it progressed but so were the directors at Abbey. We were kept informed and we were consulted as decisions/choices needed to be made. We also feel that if we need to contact Abbey about anything in the future, they will be there. We took the liberty of asking the various workers if they were happy working for Abbey and each one said yes. We place importance on there being a happy workforce, that the deal works for everyone at the company and not just for the company owners. Therefore, another big tick for Abbey! More...

How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
The key technical question is the highest point which should be 2.1 metres from loft floor to ridge (highest point).
Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
From the Scaffold and delivery taking place... the next stages are:
The structural floor - week one
The external dormers built - week two
The stairs and insulation - week three
Plasterboard, plastering - week four
2nd fix - week five and six
Final snags and closure - week seven and eight
