What do you love most about your job?
The creative process and the reaction and feedback from customers! That has to be the biggest thrill, knowing how happy you made someone and that you helped them celebrate their special day.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Sweetie's Cakery was set up after some positive feedback from cakes I'd created for my sons. I was a stay-at-home mum and found myself craving a more creative profession than my previous years in the recruitment industry. Cake decorating and baking provided me with this artistic outlet and proved a fantastic alternative to the corporate lifestyle.
Other than a couple of hours of evening classes run by my local sugarcraft shop, I am self taught. It's required varying amounts of trial and error for all the different skills. Some flowers, for example, particularly test your patience! It can sometimes be monotonous but the culmination of hard graft, sore eyes and numb fingers gives a warm feeling of accomplishment. When you receive a 'WOW' from your customer, that tops the cherry on the cake, so to speak!

My attention to my customers' needs is top notch. Each cake is created for you with time, dedication and detail. There's not much I won't do to assist my customers! Sweetie's Cakery has also won several awards including a Merit at Cake International, London in 2013; local and regional awards from Wedding Industry Experts in 2013; and most recently from The BIG Cake Show, Exeter in 2015.
We have been published in the Edible Artists Network magazine, US, Spring 2013 and Cake Masters' magazine and are getting ready to compete at The Cake and Bake Show in London in October 2018.
