We just got married on September 30th and couldn't be happier with our photos from michaelangelo. From the start he has been amazing, has been great accommodating with plan changes and was very responsive to messages. His professional input helped our day go very smoothly and Mike sent us everything we needed way ahead of time. Michaelangelo is the man for the job! Myself and my wife knew that he was the perfect choice for a photographer. He really captures the little moments in any setting and is always achieving that professional finish. Even though our pictures were taken in the middle of the day he created a sunset look for some of the more intimate photos and they are perfect! As a person he is creative, fun and understanding about what couples want for their big day. He was always asking for our opinions on his ideas and really adapted everything to suit us. Michaelangelo is the best photographer we could wish for and it's no exaggeration to be calling him our family photographer. He took the photos of our small civil ceremony and we had our maternity photoshooting with him as well. Two weeks ago I was given the opportunity to have a family photo shoot with Michael for free and I was in two ways about the idea as didn't want to feel awkward during the shoot, but I decided to give it a go and wow am I pleased I did! ! Michael arranged the location to be local, checked weather forecast and parking which was very helpful!! During the 2 hour shoot he was professional and yet easy to talk to and laid back! Having a 3 year old son can sometimes make planning impossible but thanks to Michael we felt so relaxed that the perfect photos were just flowing! Natural and artistic! Catching my son in the action and capturing loving intimate glances with my partner and myself with out us knowing (they were the best ones!) And the final photographs are perfect!! So so happy! What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
A great photograph can be very subjective and does depend greatly on the subject. As the vast majority of my work revolves around photographs of people it's important to create some sort of emotional connection between the viewer and the subjects. This is especially important if it's a wedding photograph being looked at by the couple in question. Beyond this there are a few key technical aspects to make the photograph more aesthetically pleasing to the eye - such as the rule of thirds and leading lines, which draw the viewer into the photograph and help to place the intended subject in focus. Finally, using the light effectively will greatly enhance the drama of a photograph by using it to highlight certain parts while obscuring others, further defining the subject.
Most of what makes a photograph stand out is not even down to the equipment used, but it takes a long time, patience and practice to be able to appreciate and competently utilise all these aspects properly, and is one of the many reasons why a good camera does not always make a good photographer, and why you should always consider hiring a professional who does this day in and day out.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
When meeting a couple to discuss their wedding photography I always love hearing about what they have planned so far for their day, as the photographer isn't always one of the first things they may consider! Finding out about their venue and colour schemes are always good places to start, and any little details they may have in mind. I always like to know important timings such as when the ceremony is, when the wedding breakfast and first dance are so that eventually I can plan a comprehensive schedule of the day for me to work from. If the couple are considering taking part in an engagement shoot I will try and emphasise it is nice to have this where they used to go on dates, and this brings back a lot of happy memories and makes them more comfortable and natural around me as well.
What do you love most about your job?
I love the independence being my own boss allows me. I can make my own decisions and go about things my own way but it's always the lovely clients that I work with that make the job exciting and interesting. The pace of wedding photography especially can be a bit frantic at times but I don't let this get to me and I enjoy being a 'go to' person for the couple during the planning process, as of course they have no idea what a wedding entails to begin with.
What inspired you to start your own business?
For many years photography used to be a hobby and nothing more, I never dreamed I would eventually turn it into a profession as well. Back in 2014 Some close friends of mine who were getting married suggested as I enjoyed photography that it would be nice for them to have some nice photos of the two of them taken that they could use on their wedding invites. I took it upon myself to research somewhere suitably romantic and scenic and we all went out together for the afternoon. I had never posed people for photos before but we all worked with the surroundings in the warm soft evening light and had a great time, When I showed them the finished photographs they (and I) were so impressed they suggested I could quite easily do it professionally. I thought about their advice and over time developed a brand and a website and Photography by Michaelangelo was born! Since then I have experimented with different types of portraiture photography and have settled on wedding photography as the mainstay of my business. I still offer other styles through the year when my schedule allows but weddings as you can imagine make up the bulk of my business in the milder months of the year.

With me you have an extensive, consistent portfolio in a modern and vibrant style. Full of light and clean colours, I showcase your wedding as it was meant to be seen. I can utilise the environment and the lighting to bring the photographs to life. I may be younger that some more established photographers but this gives me a more up to date approach to both the lead up and the wedding itself. I spend a good deal of time after the event carefully selecting and perfecting the photographs to ensure you only receive the very best. There will be no blurry, badly lit, poorly composed, oddly coloured photographs in sight! Truly a service and end product to be proud of.
