What makes a great website?
I specialise in designing sites for small businesses, especially accommodation businesses. Sites should make an immediate impact on potential customers. I always say to my clients that website visitors shop with their eyes. The photographs make the site. Sites should be easy to navigate, with contact details clearly visible on the home page. There is nothing more annoying than having to click on several items on the menubar just to try and find out how to contact a business.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
All my sites are designed using Wordpress and I will train you in how to make minor adjustments to the text for yourself. I will also show you how to keep your site updated.
What do you love most about your job?
Without doubt one of the best parts of my job is the people I meet. Everyone has their own story to tell and their own reasons for running their business.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I was teaching computing to adults and running a computer troubleshooting business. I moved to a village and was asked if I could design a site for the local church. That turned into our village website, which I still run ten years later. I then moved and my neighbours ran a bed and breakfast business. I designed a website for them and quite unintentionally and without even meaning to, I found myself running a web design business as other local businesses saw the site and asked me to design sites for them.
Why should our clients choose you?
Because I will make sure you like the site before it goes live - all my sites are designed on test sub-domains first. I make sure that all domain names and hosting accounts are opened in my client's name. This avoids the embarrassment and difficulty of having to ask your web designer to transfer them if you decide to use someone else.
