The best part of my job is waking up each day and thinking of new ways to inspire my clients to do the things that inspire them. I do this by making sure I am available when they need me is important as is providing the right products and services to make their lives less complicated.
What inspired you to start your own business?
In 2012 we left well-paid jobs with a vision to create our own modern accounting practice which would offer more than just number crunching services. We wanted to be different from the traditional Accountants of old and offer a more hands-on approach that provided strong working relationships and improved communication. We understood that the role of the modern accountant was changing!
Part of our vision was to introduce our customers to the advances in new technology that would help them become more automated when it came to keeping accurate business records, we have achieved this and in doing so earned a reputation for being at the forefront of using new Cloud technology and are often referred to as IT Accountants.
Next on the list was the idea of creating a business training programme that provided all the necessary ingredients needed to help people become more successful. This in now a reality and are proud of our joint venture with the Business Growth Club and the success our customers are enjoying ! Finally, establishing a network of trusted advisors, services, and trades was needed where our customers would trade with each other and create new opportunities. By utilising various social media platforms, this network is enjoying some fantastic results.
Five years on, our practice has grown in a statue and we have a great team that work with a wide range of businesses throughout the UK and a network of experts who can advise on many aspects of small business accounting and finance.

A simple service where you can drop your paperwork into our office each month for processing if you keep your records via spreadsheet then our team will update this for you. If you use desktop software, unfortunately, we don’t have the capacity to complete your bookkeeping onsite, however, if you use any cloud accounting software we are experienced, in QuickBooks, KashFlow, and Xero and can update these packages with ease.
At the beginning of 2014, Tom Bushell, the manager of Amazon Gym in Shropham, Norfolk, was given a wonderful opportunity. The business, then run by Amazon Leisure, was changing direction and needed someone new in charge. Tom put together a business plan and sought the advice of Aldous & Saunders through a recommendation. Plain speaking business advice. We took a look at Tom’s business proposal and began the process of perfecting the plan to help Tom take over the gym business. Over a number of meetings, we took parts of the proposal and discussed ways of improving it, and we talked Tom through what he would need to consider in running his own business. This included his options regarding legal and trading statuses, explaining the different types of tax he would be exposed to and how to go about recruiting and paying his employees. This left Tom more knowledgeable and with a stronger proposal. ‘Aldous and Saunders are more than accountants,’ says Tom. ‘They give you more in-depth services, offering business guidance and financial advice.’ His bid was accepted and Amazon Gym was his. A company is born! But that isn’t the end of the story. before Amazon Gym could be his, Tom needed to register and set up his new business. We discussed the decision to make Amazon Gym a limited company and, with Tom’s approval, set about registering the new company and outlining Tom’s new responsibilities as Director. Once we’d registered Amazon Gym, we registered Tom as a new director and we also registered the company for payroll, company taxes, and offered guidance in setting up his new business bank account. Now that the company formed, we got down to the business of sorting out the company accounts. Tom agreed to use our cloud based accounting option which allows both him and us to keep up to date records quickly and easily using a mobile phone app and an online cloud accounting system. All Tom has to do is send us his monthly earnings and bank statements and we organise it in the system and ensure his taxes are correct and paid on time. Choosing the right Accounts package. Tom chose a cloud based accounting system because it’s ‘paperless, more efficient and frees up your time’. He says he particularly finds it useful when ‘out and about, you can scan (the receipt) straight away, so you won’t lose it.’ All Tom has to do is scan his receipts using the Receipt Bank App on his phone, we then add it to his cloud accounting software and work out his VAT on a quarterly basis, taking away all of the hassle. Now Tom can concentrate on his exciting new venture while remaining in full financial control. On top of all of that, we secured a four figure VAT rebate for Tom on the company’s start-up purchases.
Bikram Yoga Norwich
In October 2013, Jennifer Moss and her mother, Francis, were in the process of buying the Bikram Yoga franchise in Norwich. At the age of 10, Jennifer and her mother moved from the UK to America and have both lived in the USA for over 30 years, so neither had much knowledge on how to set up a UK business. In need of help, they were referred to us by one of our existing clients. Between October 2013 and the beginning of 2014, Jennifer was commuting from the USA to the UK to work in the studio being built in Pottergate, Norwich, and set up the new limited company so the business could start trading. Getting Started. We started off by meeting with Jennifer and Francis to explain the process. What followed were numerous consultations by phone, email and in person to explain their responsibilities as directors of a UK limited company and to plan what we would do for them to get them trading. All of these discussions were free of charge. Once we had established what Aldous & Saunders could do for Jennifer and her mother, we got to work. After we registered the new company with HMRC and Companies house, we registered it for VAT and company taxes. The company payroll was put in place to ensure the business would be RTI (Real Time Information) compliant and we then registered both directors for personal tax returns. Time Saving Ideas. Jennifer had explained to us that she would be too busy to keep track of the bookkeeping and accounts. So, to streamline the accounting function, we set the company up on our monthly cloud accounting package using Receipt Bank & Kashflow. Kashflow is cloud-based software that can be logged into via the internet wherever there is an internet connection. We were able to connect Jennifer’s bank account to Kashflow, meaning that the software updates automatically. It also generates all of her invoices. We coupled this with the smartphone app Receipt Bank, which allows Jennifer to take photos of purchase receipts that are sent directly to Kashflow. There’s no need for her to keep the paper receipts, saving her time and space. On top of all of this, we ensured that VAT was claimed on all of the company’s start-up purchases and secured a four-figure tax rebate for Jennifer and her mother. Today, Jennifer concentrates on her classes with full peace of mind that the accounting function of her business is taken care of and is easy to use. Meanwhile, we provide ongoing help and support whenever she needs us to ensure that Jennifer has everything in place to make Bikram Yoga Studio a success.
