What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?

Not an easy question to answer and it depends on what the photograph is of. However, if I was take a portrait, some of elements I would be thinking about would be composition, lighting, and the pose. However, I have found that the most important element is the expression of my subject. If the expression is not to the subjects liking, the rest becomes irrelevant.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

Getting to understand what the client wants is extremely important so getting as much information as possible about the project before attending would be the aim. Again this would depend what the photographs were of. So in no particular order... What are the photographs to be used for. What style of photograph is required e.g. formal/set-up or informal/natural. A description of the place where the photos are to be taken. The number of people involved. The number of poses/set-ups envisaged. Is there a specific background needed. An idea of budget. Any example photos of what the client has in mind.

What do you love most about your job?

I love the challenge of taking a great photograph so to have a job that is also my passion can't be bad! Apart from that I love working with people, being my own boss and every job is different.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I started taking photographs for friends and family, this led on to work colleagues and from there I received more and more referrals. I loved taking photographs and the positive feedback I was receiving spurred me on to undertake a programme of formal training. When I was awarded my Licentiate from the British Institute of Professional Photographers I felt it was time to start my own business. When the opportunity arose I set up my own company ... and I have never looked back!

Why should our clients choose you?

There are a lot of great photographers in the market place, but unfortunately there are also many people who have a digital camera who purport to be professionals and compete on price alone. Monty's Photography is a Limited Company with many years experience. As well as hundreds of individual clients, our larger clients include the Metropolitan Police, The College of Policing and some prestigious public schools. As a small company, customer satisfaction is vital for our on-going success so satisfaction and quality is our aim with every project we undertake.
