East Sussex

Hi, I'm Sarah and I'm a Portrait and Wedding Photographer. As a photographer, I love what I do. I get to be involved in some special and major events in people’s lives. I believe in making people feel special, giving them honest opinions about their ideas and desires for their finished photography. I work hard to create beautiful, stunning, images for my customers. From my studio work, to on location, nothing I do is ever half hearted. I give 110% to every job. From business headshots to weddings, every job is treated with professionalism and of course a lot of fun along the way. Click on my website to view details of the different packages and what's involved I work on a day to day basis from home and I have a studio based in Eastbourne for my photography sessions. We are located at 2 The Grand Hotel Building, Compton Street, BN21 4EJ and based in Signature Studios.

What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?

Taking a great photograph is based on a few things, your subject, your location and composition. (what you see through the lens). If there is a messy background that can distract from your subject so don't be frightened to change your background, close doors, move your subject, move yourself in order to get it right for what you want. Think about the position of your subject too, maybe having them just off centre is better than right in the middle? Keep an eye on your light, whether you're using natural or studio lighting, light is so important in photography to create atmosphere and interest. Never take something in harsh bright sunlight, nothing worse than people squinting at the camera. Flat light is better, so a little cloud cover works wonders and softens the overall effect. Make sure the subject is not facing direct sunlight. Engage with your subject, focus on the eyes, even if they're looking down or to the side, and wait to get that perfect expression before you click the button. Don't hurry unless you have to.

What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?

When I start a new project, I ask lots of questions. The main ones are what do you want to achieve from this? What style of photography do you like? Do you have any images you love that you would like me to style from? What are you going to be using this for? Some projects answer certain questions already, for example a wedding, but then I might ask how the couple met, how they want their day to be, the theme or style they are having. Colours of flowers and bridesmaids, number of guests etc. I want to find out as much as I can in order to make their images as beautiful as I can for them.

What do you love most about your job?

I love taking photos, I get excited when I take one and know it's a winner for the client. I love seeing my clients relax and enjoy having their photograph taken. I enjoy the engagement with the people I take. I love sending them the finished images and hearing their feedback. I simply love everything there is to love.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I became a mother in 2013 and during my maternity leave I dug out my old camera and started taking photos of my beautiful baby, and found I had a natural flair for photography. My husband bought me my first DLSR camera and I started taking pictures of the other babies in my NCT group and it went from there. Three years on, I own a professional Canon full frame camera and lenses and have a studio in Eastbourne and I've taught myself lighting techniques, styles of photography and editing.

Why should our clients choose you?

Because I care about your photography, I care what you look like and I care when I present the finished edits back to you. I take my time and make a huge effort to get the look you want and the style you ask for. I may not be the longest established and have letters after my name but because of that I work harder to achieve great results for my clients.
