What do you love most about your job?

As a math tutor, I love discussing mathematical ideas with my students and witnessing their sparks of inspiration as they grasp new concepts. Sharing my passion for mathematics is truly rewarding, and I continue to learn and explore new areas, such as solving Rubik's cubes or memorizing Pi digits, which keeps me engaged and excited.
Helping students strategically tackle exams and assessments brings me joy, seeing their mock grades improve and guiding them from uncertainty to confidence. Using my expertise to help students understand complex concepts and solve problems is rewarding and contributes to society by fostering critical thinking skills.
Overcoming flaws in the school system and witnessing students' growth is satisfying. Collaborating with students on new questions is intellectually stimulating, and I value the focused conversations we have. Overall, being a maths tutor aligns with my passion and allows me to make a positive impact on students' lives, inspiring thought, instilling confidence, and fostering a love for learning.

What inspired you to start your own business?

During my school years, I had a deep passion for mathematics despite struggling with behaviour and undiagnosed ADHD. I wasn’t able to study formally after GCSEs, but instead studied social sciences independently, which led me to becoming a Youth Worker educating children with behavioural difficulties. I went on to study philosophy and psychology at university as a mature student, and continued to develop my skills and knowledge as an educator.
Unfortunately, physical illness struck, limiting my ability to work with the energy and pace I desired. In response, I transitioned to one-to-one tutoring, recognizing the value and impact of personalized instruction. As I honed my skills and expertise, I pursued further qualifications to become a qualified teacher. This path led me to work part time roles alongside tutoring, including further education for students resitting their GCSEs and an academic role creating maths resources for schools.
Through trying these differing roles, I’ve learnt that my skillset is best placed serving students as a one-to-one tutor. The interpersonal connection allows me to make a direct and meaningful impact on students' ability, so my work resonates with my own values and needs. Being self-employed provides the freedom and flexibility to prioritize personalised instruction and make a profound difference in the lives of those I work with.

Why should our clients choose you?

Clients should choose me because I bring a highly engaging and enthusiastic approach to my work. I have a knack for using metaphors to simplify complex concepts, making learning enjoyable and accessible. My passion for the subject shines through as I am genuinely excited about exploring individual questions and finding their answers. Additionally, I have a wealth of experience in the field, with a proven track record of helping students succeed. With my combination of enthusiasm, creativity, and expertise, clients can trust that they will receive exceptional support and guidance in their educational journey.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

1:1 tutoring can be provided face to face in my home office, or online over Zoom. Online tutoring can be for long-distance learners within the UK and overseas.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

During Covid I moved face to face tutoring online. As restrictions were being lifted, tutoring resumed face to face with protective screens and social distancing.
