I teach English, Maths, History and Art and Design as well as the full primary level curriculum. I am based in Irvine and teach one to one (and face to face) from my lovely wee classroom in my garden. My students are aged from 5 - 45 and currently around 60% have additional learning needs such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD although I do teach students of all levels/abilities. My teaching style for young students is play centred, interactive and encouraging (although it’s different for every student based on their skills etc). During lessons, I also encourage questions and discussion. For older students my aims include improving confidence and anxiety, teaching study techniques and enabling my students to achieve fair targets set by me, my students and their parents. Last year 75% of my students went from a prelim mark of around 30% - before attending my classes - to achieving an A in their Nat 5 and Higher English exams. The other 25% achieved a B. My primary level students made great progress too. I aim to remind ALL students of ALL ages and abilities learning can be fun! I create interesting, fun, bespoke lessons for each and every student. I teach both primary/secondary level subjects including Nat 5 and Higher English/Nat 5 Applications of Maths and Art and Design. I also run craft classes for children, teaching them how to make models using air dry clay. This is also an effective form of therapy and helps to reduce anxiety. I believe that when students are comfortable and enjoy their lessons, learning becomes more effective. I feel my excellent reviews and my results reflect this. I absolutely love my job and find it very rewarding when I see my students achieving results that they did not believe possible. I love to see my students develop and gain confidence. I love to see my students develop in confidence and in educational ability too. I have one student who was not at all keen on having a tutor and told me there was no point as she was going to fail. She would only agree to one lesson every 2 weeks initially. After a lot of hard work and patience on both sides. I now teach her twice a week and she is on course to get a B at Higher English and she now loves poetry which she previously hated! I am so proud!

I work extremely hard to ensure that when students leave me, they are more confident and have achieved an appreciation (if not a love) of learning, as well as the results and knowledge they need to go forward.
