Experienced maths teacher with a creative edge! Let me help you to improve your maths skills and get the grade that you deserve. I will help you to get to grips with the core skills in maths that you need, and show you how to apply them to all of the topics that you will encounter in GCSE maths. I have taught maths for the last 13 years, and have a particular strength in helping students to progress to a higher grade, as well as significantly improving the confidence in maths. I am experienced at teaching online, and will use a variety of interactive activities to help to keep my students engaged. I offer 121 tuition for Years 7 upwards, and specialist GCSE group tuition for Year 11 (groups have a maximum of 4 students in them). Tuition is online. I can also be found on facebook, search for HM Maths - GCSE Maths Tuition. I can be emailed directly at helen @ hmmaths.co.uk (no spaces)
Seeing students make mathematical connections - those 'light bulb' moments are amazing to see.
Helping students to improve not only their maths skills but their confidence in what they are doing. Giving them the skills to be able to tackle what might look at first, a complex maths problem: helping them to break down the problem into its components, and being able to fully answer the question, and be confident both in their approach and that their final answer is correct.
I've been teaching for 11 years and felt that the time was right to change my direction in education. Working for myself as a tutor will give me a better work life balance, which in turn will benefit my students.
Not all students thrive in the classroom environment. There can be many distractions, and they cannot get the full support that they need from their teacher. Many topics can feel rushed and they don't have time to fully get to grips with them. Tutoring on a 1-2-1 basis means that we can move at the pace of the student, and spend as much time as they need on a topic, not moving on to the next thing until they have fully developed their understanding.
I will get to know my students and will work with them on the areas that they have identified for improvement. Each session we will start with the 9 basics of maths - these are crucial as they underpin everything that we will go on to do in the maths curriculum.
I am able to tutor in person, if you are lucky enough to live nearby. Otherwise I will tutor via Zoom, so you will need to have computer and an internet connection to be able to access the lessons. I taught online extensively throughout covid and will use a variety of interactive activities in order to keep my students engaged.
If we are meeting face to face, then surfaces will be wiped down between students, hand sanitizer will be used. If students need me to wear a face mask then this will be accommodated.
