Dumfries and Galloway

Responsive marketing solutions and marketing-led business development that wraps around your business needs. Particular expertise in food & drink, tourism and owner managed businesses. I don't build websites but can point you in the direction of good people who do :) Marketing Consultancy Marketing consultancy services are generally offered to clients within a two hour drive time of Dumfries, unless the client is comfortable with this service being provided remotely. This service is best suited to businesses or organisations who require marketing expertise but who may not have internal resource. Two levels of service are offered. Marketing planning or brand development is short term consultancy support designed to help you plan out a programme of activity for you to deliver. This can include brand development and logo design, provided in partnership with Findlay Design, a highly experienced graphic designer who I work collaboratively with. Alternatively I can work with you on a longer term basis to both plan out and then deliver integrated marketing campaigns. This can include social media and PR support, and the support can be packaged with other specialist contractors, such as graphic design. Copywriting Consumer facing copywriting includes writing the text for websites, brochures, articles, blog and social media posts, adverts and speeches. Business to business copywriting includes proposals, annual reports, tenders, business plans, funding applications and presentations. Most copywriting services do not require face to face meetings and can therefore be provided to clients across the UK and Ireland. Award Entry Writing This is a specialist copywriting service for which I have particular expertise and a track record of success. Industry awards are usually won or lost on the basis of the written entry. Award entry writing services can be provided to clients across the UK and Ireland. Business and Rural Development Business development consultancy support is provided mainly to businesses in the food and drink, tourism and rural / land based industries, including renewables and agriculture. Often this service is provided collaboratively with other sector specialists. I specialise in marketing-led business / product development. Rural development support is provided to organisations and community organisations, mainly in south west Scotland. Again this service is often provided in collaboration with other specialists, and services can include community consultations, strategic development and event development. About Me: I'm a marketing and economic development consultant based in south west Scotland with particular expertise in tourism, food & drink and rural development. I regularly work with other professionals to deliver a full range of marketing services. I'm a member of the South of Scotland Economic Partnership, the Institute of Economic Development and the Professional Copywriters Network. I deliver the DG Food and Drink commission on behalf of Dumfries and Galloway Council and have over ten years experience in supporting food and drink businesses to grow. I'm Editor of Galloway Ranger and marketing consultant to Forestry Commission Scotland's Galloway Forest Park and I provide ongoing marketing support to a number of owner managed businesses, mainly in the tourism and food and drink industries. Much of the work I undertake for clients is of a confidential nature, therefore I don't use social media channels for my own business.

What do you love most about your job?

My role brings together creativity with business development and I enjoy the combination of both.

I'm not interested in doing marketing for the sake of being seen to do it - all marketing activities should be functional and have a clear objective. So that's what I get a kick out of - making an impact. That could be writing an award entry that wins a client a big award, or it could be helping a client decide which logo is going to be right for their business or helping a client develop a new product and launching it to market.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I enjoy working small business owners and having supported two family members grow their businesses, I knew there were probably lots of businesses that needed 'a bit' of support. I wasn't cut out for working in a large company and I wanted a role where I had the freedom to work with people that I actually like, helping them to grow businesses that I could feel passionate about.

For many of my clients they simply don't require so much marketing that it warrants creating an internal post, but they do have a need for professional delivery of their marketing activities, or they simply want to draw on the experience and advice that I can provide. So that's what I do - work with people I like, supporting them to make their business or organisation function or communicate better.

Why should our clients choose you?

They shouldn't unless they speak to me first. Most of my clients find me via referrals or recommendations and generally I would advise any business to choose business services based on the recommendation of someone they trust. However, if recommendation is not available to you then then best approach is to talk to various people to see who you get on with and who, instinctively, you feel you can trust.

I’m happy to chat through the services you need and to explore whether I’m the right person to help your business or organisation. If for whatever reason your project isn’t well suited to my services, then I can hopefully signpost you to a contractor who might be able to help.
