Oakwood Lofts Ltd

West Sussex

‘20 Certificate of Excellence

Oakwood Lofts was founded in early 2018 by Jay Griffiths. I Started the company after spending 15 years building loft conversions alongside my Father Mick for various major loft conversion companies in and around Sussex. One thing that became clear to me was that a very large amount of conversion companies were run by salesmen or individuals with no trade background, many of whom had never actually built a loft themselves. I felt that this statistic needed to change. Which is why I not only run the company, I'm also involved in the building of our conversions. This is an important part to Oakwood lofts roots, making sure our customers continually have peace of mind that not only is their project in very experienced capable hands but also that I am onsite everyday and available to answer any questions you may have at any stage of the conversion giving you complete peace of mind. Oakwood lofts are very proud of the conversions we complete for our clients and that’s reflected in not only the finish but also the amazing reviews and friendships we build with all our customers. We truly offer a very personal service because we truly care about each and every loft we take on. If you have a project you think we would be perfect for, please get in touch. We would love to meet you and build you your dream loft.

How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?

The first and most crucial element in knowing whether your loft can be converted is the hight you have available from the top of your ceiling joists to the underside of your ridge beam. This needs to be a minimum of 2 metres for a loft conversion to be possible.

What do you love most about your job?

For me it’s the final product, that completed loft that the client is over the moon with. No two lofts are the same, every client has their own quirks, styles and designs. I love working closely with every client ensuring the end result is exactly what the client wanted.

What inspired you to start your own business?

After building lofts for so many years for other companies, I decided that starting my own company was the next step In my loft buIlding career. To many companies i know employee sales man to sell a loft conversion. What I think is great about my company is that the person you meet to discuss your loft conversion ideas with is the same person thats going to be building it for you. I think it’s important to create a rapour right from the start. Also, as I’m going to be building your lofts, it means I’m always on site to answer any questions you have throughout the whole process. No need to be chasing company owners via email or phone.

Why should our clients choose you?

I’m a small family run company, this allows me to focus on one loft conversion at a time. This means that my entire focus is on your loft conversion and your payments pay for your job. This allows tradesmen and merchants to be paid promptly avoiding any delays in the build.

Converting your loft into liveable space is typically much more cost effective than building an extension, with prices starting from just £15,000 for a basic loft conversion. However, this depends on how complex the design is. A loft conversion can be as simple as a room in the roof, or it can involve adding dormer windows or even altering the roof. The more sophisticated the design is, the higher the cost will be.

According to research carried out by Nationwide Building Society, converting your loft can increase the value of your home by up to 20%. With the average price of a house in the UK currently standing at £235,000, a loft conversion could increase your home’s value by up to £47,000. Of course, this depends on the design of your loft conversion and the amount of extra space that you’re adding to your property.

Most loft conversions will take around 10 weeks to complete. However, this is dependent on the design of your loft conversion. How long it takes to convert your loft will depend on the type of loft conversion being done, the materials used, whether plumbing is required, the type of staircase being installed and how many windows are being added.
