Trusted and reliable

Who are they?

The best services are personalised. That's why at Bark, we make sure that your list of quotes is tailored to you. Each of your free quotes will give you lots of information about each professional dog walker, such as:

Whether you pay by the hour or per dog
The level of experience and any qualifications that each dog walker has
The type of transport that they'll use
The areas of Edinburgh that they'll cover
Whether they'll walk with other dogs or can walk your pup solo if required

Depending on the professional that you choose, there are a number of different services available to you as the dog owner. Some walkers offer email or text updates letting you know of any toys that may have been sniffed out along the way. They'll also let you know the distance, time and the mood of your dog on that particular day. Others may update you face-to-face. Whatever service you choose via Bark, you can rest assured that your best friend will be taken good care of.

More personal

The secret to top quality service is the personal touch. With Bark, you can find experienced dog walkers who meet your specific needs. Maybe you need a walker who will enforce the same training regime as you do at home. It might be that your dog benefits from lots of new and exciting experiences to keep them active and entertained. Or you simply need a reliable dog walker who you can trust.

Whatever your priorities, our network of trusted dog walkers covers the whole of Edinburgh. So you’re bound to find a professional for you. All you have to do is let Bark know what type of special service, experience or expertise you want from your Edinburgh dog walker. And we’ll sort out the rest.

Where are they?

Edinburgh is a great city and there are so many places to go and explore. In each of your quotes, the area that each dog walker covers will be included. So wherever you and your pup are in the hilly capital, we can put you in touch with a dog walker who’s based nearby.

For puppies, you may want a walker who takes your dog to places with lots of interesting sights and smells. Walks around Portobello Beach and Cramond Beach make for a fun day out. While joint walks with other dogs can help your pup to socialise and make new friends. Maybe your dog needs one-to-one attention or prefers going solo. Exploring more enclosed, quieter spaces, such as Holyrood Park and Harrison Park, might be more up their street. Whatever your dog’s needs, at Bark we make sure that you find a professional that fits the bill.

Hear from
a professional

Why did you become a professional dog walker?

We always kept dogs as a family, but because of my work in the army I could never have my own dog as I moved around too much. When I finally retired from the army, I got into walking as a way to keep myself active. One day when I was walking up the Pentlands, I saw a lady who was clearly a dog walker. She must have had at least five dogs with her. I thought it was the perfect job for me – I could combine my love of dogs with my love of walking, and get paid doing it!

What services do you offer?

I mostly offer longer walks as opposed to the quick walk around the neighbourhood. Although for my more loyal customers, I am happy to fit in shorter walks here and there. Most of the time, I take a couple of the dogs walking for a few hours outside of the city, so that we can all stretch our legs. The dogs love it because they can run around and explore, as well as socialise with some new and familiar faces. I love it because the dogs make great company and it keeps me fit and active. It’s always a great day out for me and the dogs.

What’s your favourite Edinburgh dog walk?

If I was to go outside of Edinburgh, my favourite dog walk is to hike up one of the tracks along the Pentland Hills. This is a much harder walk than an easy hike, and really challenges me and the dogs. But I also go walking up Arthur’s Seat quite often, as I can head up there from the centre of Edinburgh, which can make pickups and drop-offs easier. Plus, it has a fantastic view at the top!

The price of hiring a dog walker will depend on the area of the UK in which you live, with prices typically higher in the South of England and particularly in London. The cost of hiring a dog walker will often be lower in the North of England and in Scotland and Wales.

The most important thing when you’re hiring a dog walker is that both you and your dog trust them. You should also ensure that your dog walker has public liability insurance that covers them in case of damage, accident or loss. The best way to find a reliable and trustworthy dog walker is by reading reviews of previous clients. When you hire a dog walker through Bark, you can browse the profiles of dog walkers in your local area and read honest reviews from genuine customers.

It is recommended that a dog walker should walk a maximum of four dogs at a time, to enable them to maintain good control of each dog. Most dog walkers will give you the option of having your dog walked alone or with other dogs. Walking with other dogs will help your dog to develop valuable social skills. However, if your dog is reactive, you may prefer for them to be walked alone.
