There are a lot of very good DJ's out there but then there are also a lot of bad DJ's that give the professionals a bad name. When a client has a bad experience it has a roll over effect on all DJ's professional or not. Let's face it, anyone can go out and buy a cheap mixer, speakers and advertise themselves as professional.

What is a professional?
A professional is someone who has a lot of experience and training such as a tradesman who only does what they do as a profession.
Would you go to a doctor or solicitor who only did this as his or her second job?
A professional DJ is someone who only does this as a living. They could be an experienced DJ but a lot of DJ's still claim to be professional even though they just DJ in their spare time or as a hobby ! However, an experienced DJ may be all that you need for your event especially if you are just having a knees up at your local bar but if you have a really important event such as your wedding day, then we would recommend using a professional. It all depends on how special your party is to you.

Does your DJ have a good reputation?
Don't just look at a website and believe the testiomonials. A good website does not mean a good DJ although it does show that they have made some effort.
Ask them if they can back up their testimonials. Speak to the venues where they have worked as the venues have no reason to lie.
Don't just go for the cheapest. If they are cheap, there is uaually a reason for that.
How much should I pay for a DJ ?
This is often the very first question that is asked. It all depends on what you are looking for really.
Imagine that you wanted to treat someone special to a meal ! You could pay for a takeaway meal or you could really try to impress them by taking them to a good restaurant or you can even go michelin star. Either way you are still getting a meal but the prices are very different.
I could go on forever which is why I would like to find the time to write a book. Please note that It is not my intention to knock other DJ's as I have already mentioned that there are a lot of good DJ's out there but there are also a lot of bad ones. I have simply just tried to put everything into perspective.
