What’s the secret to keeping a party dancing all night long?

I start by talking to you about the music you like and the songs that have particular significance. We also talk about any music or songs that you definitely don't want played.

We can also encourage your guests to get involved in putting forward their suggestions for the music to be included in the DJ set for the night.

The focus is on providing a broad range of music that will cater for everyone's tastes and encourage people to dance.

Playing the big hits that your friends and family know and love is key, but it’s also important to take your guests on a musical journey so you move between genre’s and styles in a structured way.

That’s one of the many skills I can offer as an experienced DJ to sequence and seamlessly mix the music to build and maintain the energy on the dance floor.

If I were to play weak or little known songs or songs people didn’t enjoy, your guests would quickly get bored and become disconnected from the music and the atmosphere would suffer.

Imagine playing pop, soul, R&B, motown, disco, R&B, motown, house and then rock. This just wouldn’t flow and people would get disgruntled at the constant change of music styles and tempo.

However if you switch it to playing a few songs of each genre in sequence, linking songs to transition between genres, play songs that resonate and connect people with moments in time and hey presto you keep people dancing and at the same your other guests start to join in and before you know it the dance floor is packed!

It’s a constantly changing situation so it’s also really important that I pay close attention to the reaction of your guests to the music being played and am prepared to introduce new tracks, change and move things around if necessary, and take the music up or down a gear as and when required.

It normally takes around 30-40 minutes for a DJ to set up their equipment but this could change depending on the specific DJ, venue, and event.

Most DJs will offer lighting hire either as an add-on or as part of their general service. Although it really depends on the DJ and the packages they offer. For example, a DJ may include floor lighting as a standard part of the service but then charge extra for more advanced lighting equipment including bar lights and moving headlights.

Most DJs will curate a playlist based on your requests and provide it to you in advance of the event, just to make sure that you’re happy with it and to make tweaks if necessary. How much freedom you give to your DJ in terms of creating the music list is essentially down to you.
