Alastair Minus, owner of Minus Fine Furniture is a designer and maker of fine furniture, specialising in bespoke, free standing furniture with emphasis on handmade. Having trained for three years at Rycotewood Furniture Centre in Oxford where I achieved a First Class Degree in Furniture Design and Make and also having been awarded the 'Best In Show' prize from the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers I take pride in my work and ensure every detail is perfect. With care and attention to detail I aim to bring your furniture ideas to life, with a sound knowledge in all things timber and furniture making you can rest assured that your piece will be made to exceptionally high standard to ensure it lasts. Here at Minus Fine Furniture I believe that furniture plays a hugely important role in our lives, it should be an expression of you and your personality, it should bring you joy at every glance and in order to achieve this I ensure that the relationship between you, the customer and myself is strong and personal and your piece is designed and made with you at the centre. I have always had a passion for making things, as I went through school my interest turned to furniture which led me into a degree in Furniture Design and Make at Rycotewood Furniture Centre. Everything from the initial design of a piece right through the end product fascinates me. I love working with wood, it is such a versatile and honest material. The idea of taking a flat, rectangular sawn board of timber and turning it into a beautiful, handmade piece of furniture, nothing beats it.
I love being totally involved with the projects I have going on, dedicating everything to each project to ensure it turns out perfectly, working in a company doesn't always allow me to take the project through from start to end, often you work at one part of the production line. Being self employed, and a sole trader allows me to be working on every aspect of the project.
I have been professionally trained by hugely talented craftsmen at one of the most prestigious furniture making universities in the UK. Rycotewood Furniture Centre is renown for producing exceptional craftsmen and women and big name designers. Thanks to this training and my passion for the craft, any piece that a client may commission will be designed and made to an exceptionally high standard. It will be handmade by myself with care and attention to detail allowing the client to get exactly what they were looking for.
I am also partnered with One Tree Planted, for every commission I take, I donate a percentage to One Tree Planted to plant trees in the UK and around the world to help replenish forests.
I believe in keeping customers, visitors, suppliers and everyone else involved in my work safe and so if the customer is vulnerable or wishes to take extra precautions then I more than happy to wear mask, keep at a safe distance and keep everything clean, I am also fully vaccinated. If there is anything more the customer would like me to do in order to keep them and their families safe then I will do whatever I can.
