Short Story Theatre

Northamptonshire

Short Story Theatre oversees three branches of performances. The Fed Sisters (an acoustic band), Perverbials (a dark comedy theatre company) and Short Story Theatre (a touring pantomime/singalong company). The Fed Sisters are an easy listening, acoustic band. Our original music takes a heartfelt, funny look on life, and they know a range of covers (varying from family friendly music, to upbeat and popular tunes). They are happy to make personalised sets per booking and are available to book for various occasions such as weddings, birthdays, festivals and music events. Short Story Theatre provides a professional mobile theatre service across the UK. We deliver tailored performances to any targeted audience, but specialise in plays, musicals and sing-alongs for those who may find it difficult to travel to a theatre. We are currently booking for a 2019 tour of Alice in Wonderland. Lastly, Perverbials specialises in twisting well-known tales, or created original tales that are twisted. If you are interested in writing or performing in a dark comedy theatre group, please email i•••••@••••.co.uk with the subject 'Perverbials'.

What do you love most about your job?

I love meeting our audiences and brightening up their day. We visit such a range of lovely people and it's wonderful to be able to sing together and spread some laughter and happiness around. I am also able to work with a number of talented and professional actors in my daily life, something that is growing as the company expands. I write new shows for each new tour to keep both my actors and audiences engaged, and I enjoy it more every time we get to put a show/tour together.

I couldn't ask for a better or more committed band mate (The Fed Sisters), and regularly performing with my sister for a living is a real joy.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have always loved writing and performing, and after touring a Christmas pantomime around some residential homes, I received various enquiries from staff and residents to see if we were able to continue our performances throughout the year. This sparked the idea for seasonal pantomimes, something to keep festivities going all year round, and Short Story Theatre was born.

The Fed Sisters has been going for many years (casually), as my sister and I love to perform with each other. We are now moving on to professional bookings as we are just finishing our second EP and would like to get this recorded in between our gigs.

Why should our clients choose you?

My grandmother also used to run a residential home, my parents both worked with dependent adults for a very long time, and I have always volunteered in residential homes, so I know how rewarding it is to visit/look after elderly people or adults with learning disabilities. As Short Story Theatre primarily works in residential homes, you can be sure to know that

I also work with children for the other part of my job (a personal tutor and drama teacher), so am very apt with entertaining a variety of audiences - we have performed at company family days, festivals, summer fetes and much more.

Regarding The Fed Sisters, we are both musical singer/songwriters and have been performing with each other casually for many years. We now have the time to book professional gigs, however our enjoyment of singing together is as strong as it always has been. We also have additional band mates (drummer and guitarist) that we regularly perform with if you were looking for a larger/louder group performance, but we can be suitable for a number of events.
