The Purple Ones - Insatiable Tribute to Prince

Alameda

‘20 Certificate of Excellence

Since 2012, Oakland California’s The Purple Ones treat the music and patented vibe of Prince’s legacy with the utmost respect. The musical dexterity of The Purple Ones – with 10-12 pieces on stage (including a 3-4 piece horn section and 3 vocalists that trade off lead vocals) – delivers their own spin on Prince’s (and other Prince related artists such as The Revolution, The New Power Generation, Sheila E., Morris Day & The Time and the general Minneapolis Sound) live onstage, as this funk machine, dance party has to be experienced to be believed! The Purple Ones is a group of world-class musicians that carries out the Purple Legacy of the MUSIC. TPO brings the energy to the audience with the electricity Prince brought on his iconic live shows, something that no other Prince tribute out there can do. No karaoke studio arrangements here! TPO is NOT a typical tribute band. There is no impersonator or look- a-like, nor do they dress up in goofy costumes or wigs. The Purple Ones has been packing venues, fairs, festivals and concert series up and down California, night after night, by speaking Prince’s musical language. energy, rhythm, creativity and of course…a serious dose of unadulterated funk. The Purple Ones tap into that soulful artistry like none other. The Purple Ones is a labor of love that was born in 2012 when Bay Area based bandleader and founder, Morty Okin (“The New Morty Show”, co-founder of the Michael Jackson tribute “Foreverland” and Neil Diamond tribute “Super Diamond”,) decided to focus all of his energy on building the greatest Prince homage on the planet. The Purple Ones have been packing concert venues since their inception, growing a fan base over the years that includes long time Prince devotees and newbies that are just discovering the icon. Levi Seacer (Prince’s The New Power Generation) played with TPO for almost 8 years, Brown Mark and Matt “Doctor” Fink from The Revolution have performed with TPO onstage and is not uncommon for the band to be joined on stage by “Honorary Purple Ones” like celebrity “Super Fan,” comedienne Margaret Cho and members of the artist’s extended musical family, including renowned percussionist (and brother of Sheila E,) Juan Escovedo who toured the world with Prince in the 80’s, as well as Sheila E’s longtime saxophonist Eddie M.

What do you love most about your job?

Q. Does The Purple Ones perform at private events?
A. Most definitely. Private events, weddings and parties of all sizes, TPO will get your guests partying, dancing and singing along, until they drop of exhaustion!

Q. Is The Purple Ones the right entertainment for my private party?
A. The answer from many satisfied customers and concert-goers is a resounding yes! TPO is a top-tier, very popular and in-demand band in California. TPO has a phenomenal reputation for consistently putting on jaw dropping performances and getting everyone in the room dancing and singing. We play many types of events

Q. Does The Purple Ones ever come in smaller configurations or lineups?
A. No we don’t. It’s always 11-12+ members on stage. Our material is heavily arranged for our lineup. That’s partly what sets TPO apart and makes us special. We also do NOT have a Prince impersonator! Cause well, who wants that?. Our lineup is 2-3 lead Vocalists, 2 guitars, bass, drums, keys and a wall of sound 4-piece horn section! TPO emulates the energy of Prince’s “live” shows like nobody’s business!

Q. Is The Purple Ones too large a band to have at my small private party?
A. Nah, If we can fit on the stage or space, we can make it happen. We can meet with you for a walk-through at the event site while you are in the planning stages if need be.

Q. Does The Purple Ones only play Prince music?
A. TPO plays all Prince and anyone associated with the Purple family including Morris Day and The Time, Sheila E, etc. But for private events, TPO can provide DJ services for an extra fee- we have awesome DJs! They can provide background and dance music before and between sets TPO’s performances, so you’ll always have a variety of music for your guests.

Q. I want my patrons and guests to be partying all night. Can The Purple Ones make that happen?
A. Hell yes! Prince is one of the most popular artists of all time. His music is loved by all types of people, young and old. TPO perform two-plus hours of hits, B-sides and deep cuts that will have you and your guests dancing and singing along the whole night. You don’t have to be a Prince fan to enjoy TPO’s show, it’s funky dance music for everyone.

Q. How much does The Purple Ones cost to hire for a private event?
A. Booking fees depend on availability and time of year. The holidays and NYE are always more expensive and the expenses can vary depending on location such as airfare, hotel, backline, sound/ lighting production, etc. We deliver a second to none show!
Please call Morty at (415)-377-776 to discuss details.

Q. Is The Purple Ones the right type of band to hire for a wedding reception?
A. Of course! When you hire TPO to perform at your wedding we already know you’re cool as hell because you want something different. Not a typical wedding cover band. We will make it an evening to remember without taking focus off of the bride and groom. Once again, we also offer DJ services for ceremony music, cocktail music, and a variety of music before, between and after the band’s performance to offer a full-service musical experience.

Q. Is The Purple Ones a Prince impersonation or look-alike?
A. HELL….NO! The Purple Ones is a celebration of Prince’s music. We are all top notch, seasoned pro, FUNKY musicians and singers. Our Musical Director/ Lead guitarist is Levi Seacer, who was also Prince’s Musical Director, bassist and guitarist for many years. He is also a founding member (and current member still) of Prince’s The New Power Generation! We do not attempt to do an impersonation of Prince, but channel his spirit, musicality, and his “live show” energy that no other Prince tribute band can do.

Sean was the perfect entertainment for a 70th birthday celebration in an outdoor park! He and his drummer provided exactly what we needed- an unplugged mix of music for the afternoon. Very accomodating- a pleasure to work with!
