Joshua Anstey Photography

I'm a documentary wedding photographer based in the heart of rural Suffolk. I'm not a fan of posing or setting stuff up and I really hate flashes. I like real emotion, real memories. My goal is that when you look back at the photos I took for you six years later, you remember the great time you had together, not a guy with a camera telling you to turn your head slightly more to the left. I hate having my photo taken, and as someone who is desperately introverted, I get how weird it can be to hire a stranger to follow you around for the day. For this reason, I tend to favour telephoto lenses which allow me to step back and photograph from a distance rather than having to shove intimidating pieces of glass in your face, giving you a bit more space to breathe. I like to meet every prospective couple before they make a booking. Firstly it's just a bit more friendly, secondly I find it's much easier to discuss your plans properly and offer you options that suit you perfectly. I don't charge for this, I'll come to you, and there's absolutely no obligation to book afterwards. If you'd like to meet up or you've got any burning questions I'd love to hear from you.

What do you love most about your job?

Ah I really don’t know how to narrow it down to one thing. I think I just flipping love weddings tbh. They’re brilliant aren’t they? What’s not to love? Everything and everyone is so ridiculously happy. Great food, great company and a banging party. And I get to be a part of that, sometimes several times a week. Love it. 👌🏻

What inspired you to start your own business?

I was blackmailed into shooting a friend’s wedding. A few other couples asked me to do theirs after seeing the photos I produced and then next thing I knew I had a website. It was very accidental but now I’m totally hooked.

Why should our clients choose you?

I specialise in people that don't like having their photo taken, just like me.
When my wife and I got married I absolutely dreaded having our photos done and I remember feeling physically uncomfortable at the idea, particularly for the portraits bit later on. If you feel like this too, or you consider yourself to be an introvert then I may well be the perfect choice for you.
I use longer range lenses so that I can hide away and shoot from a distance - half the time you won't even realise I'm there.
I also don't do posing at all. All of the photos you see on my website are however that thing naturally occurred. All of my photos are of real emotion, real moments, real memories. If you want to throw a wedding rather than a photo shoot, hire me.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Probably not. (Really Bark? So sorry, these are set questions, I can't pick them. If you want a proper FAQ have a look at the info & pricing page on my website.)

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

First off, I'm fully vaccinated. In principal I'm happy to wear a mask if you'd like me to, but unfortunately I am bespectacled and when I put a camera to my face with a mask on I stop being able to see. This makes photography somewhat... tricky. I'll take home lateral flow tests one week, and one day before the wedding. I don't want to kill your gran. If that comes back positive or I'm obliged by law to self-isolate then I'll do my absolute best to find you an alternative through my contacts in the industry. If I can't manage this, I'll give you a full refund. If you're unfortunate enough to have to cancel your event due to legal restrictions imposed on you, you can transfer your booking to a different date for no extra cost. If we can't find a date that works for both of us, I'll give you a full refund. You've suffered enough.
