What do you love most about your job?

Being able to teach something I’m passionate about & seeing the successes of my singing students.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I just fell into it really, I started a family, I didn’t really want to perform anymore & I was invited to teach at local schools when the teachers of my students that went to them, heard the vast improvement in their voices. I also come from a family of self employed workers, it’s in our blood.

Why should our clients choose you?

For over 20 years Jayne has produced some of our finest young singers that have gone on to stage and screen and forging international careers in Opera,Musical Theatre, T.V & Film.
Jayne’s current and past students have been members of all the major youth choirs in the UK such as the National Youth Choir’of Great Britain, The Halle Youth Choir, won awards nationally across the country, winners of music festivals, and more recently the prestigious Glyndebourne Academy & the Glyndebourne Junior Academy.

Based originally in Bowdon, Altrincham & Hale Barns, Jayne has recently moved from the magnificent home of former 19th Century virtuoso conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra,The Halle Orchestra & champion of Wagner : Hans Richter, to the tranquil setting of a 17C Cottage nestled in the Cheshire countryside & close to Clonter Opera. In all of Jayne’s experience as a teacher, she has studied 18C & 19C vocal practices with an interest of earlier periods in musical history the evolution of vocal styles & techniques.
Jayne’s personal method is firmly on the historic Italian vocal school, the ideal voice should be even throughout it’s range of over two octaves, agile & strong, capeable of a good clear trill in all voice types & with clear resonant diction. It should be able to swell & diminish, colour tone at will & be resonant, ringing & beautiful.
“Strive for quality & the quantity will com” - an old Italian maxim. Jayne also has a particular interest in the rehabilitation of voices, some mainly from the strains of musical theatre where the drama teacher or whoever says “just whack it out ! “ or simply that they are wrong categorised as the wrong voice type.
The improvement of any voice is to remove the vocal faults, eliminate them & you have the perfect singer. All problems basically are muscular, the correct training of the muscles will remove them in time.
Jayne’s main attribute is to teach young singers correctly, without fear of their age, historically some of the greatest singers began in childhood! Jayne’s keen observation of the excellent & not so excellent has resulted in a deep insight on how to do it !

Jayne will teach you all the classical breathing techniques that will help to you to sing & manage breath control. Posture is a vital part of breathing to help control phrasing and more importantly to place the voice on the appoggio which is the coordination of the vocal folds & the respiratory organs to produce a balanced sound. By singing on the breath you support the sound. The body is centred and the head, neck & jaw are released,as is the rest of the body. Also the correct breath pressure is vital. Good posture promotes all this & it looks good !

Jayne firmly believe that great singing stems from a good daily practice regime of correct vocal technique, no matter what the style is!
A good dancer will do the same, a deep foot in Classical ballet in order to dance all the other styles. A good singer will know ‘ ONE’S ‘ voice to adapt because of a deep root in Classical singing.
Classical opera singers often make good Jazz singers & vice versa.
Jayne has taught ‘ belters ‘ for example to sing classical so well to the point these singers are making credible careers in opera & such students have gone on to Glyndebourne Academy & consevatoires of music.

Jayne teaches all repertoire encompassing Musical Theatre,Jazz,Pop,Rock, Choral, Opera, Oratorio,Classical Art Song & Early Music.

Jayne has a good working knowledge of other languages, such as Italian, French, German, Czech, Russian & Latin.

Jayne can also help with Aural training & sightsinging.

Jayne began her musical studies playing the cornet in Brass Bands at the age of 9 years old and later developed a keen interest interest in opera singing from a young age after listing to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera and decided that is what she wanted to do, SING!
1n 1996 she entered The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester studying with Miss Honor Sheppard & by the 2nd year was selected to perform small roles along side professionals in the Batignano opera festival in Italy & by year 4 undergraduate, she performed the title role of Janacek’s Jenufa & won the Dame Eva Turner Award for dramatic sopranos which funded her postgraduate studies.

Jayne has performed all over the country as a free lance singer performing in Oratorios with choral societies such as Handel’s Messiah, Nelson Mas & Saul Kodaly’s Missa Brevis,Verdi’s Requiem, Mendelsohm’s Elijah & Lobgesang, Mozart’s Requiem. Jayne has worked alongside composer’s such as David Fanshawe performing his ‘ African Sanctus ‘ all over the UK in cathedrals such as Chichester,Carlisle & Chester. In 2002 Jayne performed the title role of Dvorak’s Rusalka for Stowe Opera in Czech.

Since then Jayne took a U-turn into teaching after starting a family, Jayne’s passion is to teach the new talent of tomorrow & guiding them on the right path with quality vocal tuition which has resulted in many successful students that have gone to forge international careers in Opera & Musical Theatre on both stage & screen.

Most impressively Jayne has Classical singing students year after year get accepted into all the major UK Conservatoires of Music ( RNCM, RWCM, Trinity Laben, RCM, RAM, RCS, DIT Dublin ) top universities such as Oxford, Cambridge & Durham on choral scholarships. Jayne’s musical theatre students have made the West End such after winning prestigious BBC 1 talent shows such as ‘ Over the Rainbow ‘ for Andrew Lloyd Webber, Fame Academy, The Voice, ITV’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, Pop Idol & The Voice Kids to name but a few.
In the 20 years of teaching Jayne is proud of the fact that 98% of her students have all got onto principal vocal & performing courses at higher education ALL ranging from Universities, Colleges of Music, Theatre Schools & miscColleges, schools of acting some aboard even !

Jayne currently has students in The Halle Youth Choir, The Halle Children’s Choir, The National Choir of Great Britain and since it’s conception, year after year Jayne has had a singer get onto the prestigious Glyndebourne Academy & another student will get the fantastic opportunity to get on the free course 2023.
Glyndebourne recently introduced their new Junior Academy summer course & this year Jayne has 4 students that got through.

Originally based in Bowdon, Jayne has taught in schools & students from schools in the Cheshire such as Terra Nova, Knutsford Academy,The Wellington School, All Hallows Catholic College, Loretto, Bowdon Church School The Bollin, St Ambrose, Sandbach Girl’s, Alderley Edge Girls, Altrincham Girls & Altrincham Boys Grammar School’s has relocated to the Sandbach area of Rode Heath

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I can coach online repertoire online anything really, singers would have to do their own warm-ups and technical exercises because the technology doesn’t allow me to play the piano at the same time, so it’s a good idea if the singers can play pitches on a keyboard ( you don’t need great skills ) to pitch to online. And students can send me videos of their singing remotely so as I can point them in the right direction.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

I’m lucky enough to live in big houses so I can distance myself anyway from my students in a large room which I keep it clean & sanitised. I had to teach online during Covid which was challenging but we made it work. In fact I increased my business at the time. I taught my college students as well, coaching in language skills as well as the final details of singing. I also supported my students emotionally & added pastoral care.
