Can you replace a roof yourself?
It’s always recommended to hire a professional roofer to repair or replace a roof. Repairing a roof involves working at height which can be extremely dangerous if you aren’t professionally trained and without the right safety equipment. Roofs are also delicate, meaning that they can be easily damaged during a DIY repair. This could lead to further costs later down the line.
Does home insurance cover a leaking roof?
In the majority of cases, a leaking roof will not be covered by home insurance. Some companies offer this type of insurance as an add-on service which needs to be purchased on top of standard home insurance. The exception to this is if your roof was damaged by a storm, in which case you may find that your home insurance will cover the damage. However, the majority of cases will not be covered by insurance.
Will a new roof increase the value of a house?
A new roof may increase property value slightly. The level of increase depends on the condition of the existing roof. If the existing roof is in poor condition and is detracting from the home’s value, replacing the roof is a great investment. If the existing roof is in good condition and there is no visual issue, replacing the roof is unlikely to affect the value of the property.
