Sami and the team carried out our extension in Spring 2023 and we are so pleased with everything from start to finish. The extension started when our baby was only 3 months old and I really appreciated Sami’s communication and patience with me whilst I was struggling with sleepless nights and no kitchen. The work was water tight within 5 weeks which was super impressive (so much so that I wasn't ready with a chosen kitchen!). However Sami was flexible and came back to fit the kitchen once I was ready. The team were super tidy and the dust and disruption was at a minimal. We live in a tight cul de sac and they worked around this perfectly. They were here every weekday in ALL weathers, and we really did have it all! How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
A garage is usually suitable for conversion if it has sound foundations, solid walls, and enough internal space to meet Building Regulations once insulated. Key things to check include ceiling height, damp proofing, drainage, and whether the garage is attached or integral to the house. Planning permission is often not required, but Building Control approval is. A site inspection is the best way to confirm suitability.

The process typically starts with a site survey and design, followed by Building Control approval. Work then includes structural alterations (if needed), insulating floors, walls and ceilings, installing windows or doors, first fix electrics and plumbing, plastering, second fix, and final finishes. Throughout the process, inspections are carried out to ensure everything complies with regulations before completion and sign-off.
How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
A loft is usually suitable if there is enough head height (typically around 2.2m at the highest point), a suitable roof structure, and space for a compliant staircase. The type of roof, span, and condition of existing timbers are important factors. Even if head height is limited, options like dormers or roof alterations may still make a conversion possible. Loft conversion
1. Dormer Loft Conversion
• Flat-roofed extension projecting from the back or side of the roof.
• Most popular type (adds good space + head height).
2. Hip-to-Gable Loft Conversion
• Extends the sloping “hip” roof into a vertical wall (gable).
• Common on semi-detached and end-of-terrace houses.
3. Mansard Loft Conversion
• Steep sloping roof with a flat top, usually across the whole rear.
• Maximises floor area and can look like a natural extra storey.
4. Velux / Rooflight Loft Conver
Extensions
1. Rear Extension – single or double-storey built onto the back of the property.
2. Side Extension – extends the property sideways, often on unused land.
3. Wrap-Around Extension – combines rear + side extension in an L-shape.
4. Single-Storey Extension – extends just one floor, often for kitchens/living rooms.
5. Double-Storey Extension – adds two floors, increasing both living and bedroom space.
6. Over-Structure Extension – built above an existing structure like a garage or outrigger.
