GKR has saved and changed my life. My MH has improved drastically and I fully believe I wouldn't be here with GKR and the amazing instructors in my region. The regional manager couldnt be any better and she's always there supporting my journey every step of the way. The regions senior instructor is a massive influence and sees only the positivity in the students. My main 2 instructors have become treasured friends. All of this while learning a skill that could possibly save your life. WHATS NOT TO LOVE..HAI!!🥋 More...

Great club, amazing family atmosphere, and I have been extremely well supported for several years. Progression kicks in at a suitable pace as you ascend the ranks, both for the sport and self defence sides.

GKR is a fantastic karate club which caters for all ages and abilities, and I have been a student for over 13 years. The dojos offer a friendly, welcoming environment where you can train and learn on your own or with family at a pace that suits, and it’s also a great way to build confidence and make new friends. I am proud to be a Sensei for this club, and would definitely recommend giving it a try to anyone that’s interested. More...

PARENTS WARNING – Our Experience With GKR Karate I want to share our experience with GKR Karate so other parents and grandparents know what to expect before enrolling a young child. We enrolled our 4 year old granddaughter, who attended classes straight after childcare. After 2–3 lessons she became very distressed and refused to go back. She cried before classes, and despite giving it another two weeks, we were unable to get her to attend again. During this three week period, we did not receive any contact from GKR Karate—no call to check whether she was sick, why she wasn’t attending, or whether everything was okay. Despite her not attending, payments continued to be taken from our bank account, and I believe they would have continued indefinitely if we hadn’t cancelled. When we cancelled, we were informed of the 28 day cancellation policy and that the uniform is non refundable, even though it had only been worn 2–3 times. We returned the uniform and were told it would be placed on their donation rack. Important Points for Parents • Make sure your child genuinely wants to attend before signing up. • Children coming straight from childcare are often exhausted, which can affect their willingness to participate. • Cancel as early as possible if your child is unhappy, as the 28 day cancellation period applies regardless of attendance. • Expect to lose the cost of the uniform, as it is non refundable even if barely used. I joined GKR Karate Hednesford Prime and Rugeley with my daughter and our experience has been nothing but positive. I have never known a club which welcomes you with so much warmth that you feel you have joined a family. You learn something new every lesson, work hard, and play hard whilst never being made to feel like you don't belong. In fact I thought I was unteachable in karate until I joined but GKR have helped with it all. You will learn, get fitter, and in my case build up confidence in yourself. I even took part in a tournament for the first time in my life! They are fantastic, and a special mention to my fantastic supportive Senseis Antony, Vanessa, Rob, Tracey, and Ollie who champion us every week.Brilliant club, brilliant classes, fantastic environment. Everybody should join. More...

My son started GKR in January 2024 at 6 1/2 years old and his confidence blossomed. Very quickly he was excited to not only do one lesson a week but two and is always keen for the extra classes and seminars. Currently working towards his green belt he enjoys every moment! So much so when his sister turned 5 in June she started immediately! They love doing classes together, the sensai and instructors are all caring kind and knowledgeable and create a wonderful environment for learning the art. We look forward to many more classes seminar and grading! More...

My son 6yrs went for grading for his yellow belt over the weekend. As soon as it was time to get in the car he panicked. He became very anxious. His Sensei Daniel from Bateau Bay came down to his level. Talked and encouraged him every step of the way. I was so thankful for his kind and caring approach with my son. He got through the day. He’s now excited to show all his friends at school his Certificate. Thanks for all the encouragement from everyone there, his class mates and a sweet boy who came over to try and help my son. What a community. X More...

Quite upset with my sons experience! My son has autism and has speech delay so thought doing something so productive and positive would have a great impact on his development and confidence, well it would have if the instructors were as good as we were told at sign up, I was told that he would get support and encouragement he got the opposite he was ignored! one lesson he was pushed to the side left in tears because of his shoes which is apart of his autism trait which i made them aware of there was no compassion! and on multiple occasions I told every instructor that he will not go and find his own partner could they assist the answer was yes... but no he was left standing on his own getting upset and has now refused to go back! One of the instructors was actually more bothered showing off than he was teaching a class! Hate giving these kind of reviews but I would not recommend if your child has additional needs! More...

What an amazing first experience of karate for my son tonight. Such a warm and friendly welcome to the dojo (Uttoxeter) from the senseis and other students from the minute we walked in until the minute we went home. My boy even got high-fives, handshakes and words of encouragement on his way out of the leisure centre by other students too, which proves just how much positive influence this club has on everyone. We ordered WKF-approved Tokaido gloves and shin pads from the website on March 2nd. A few days later, we haven't received anything. My wife had to chase it up yesterday as our son had a deadline to when he needed them. Today (March 7th) we have received cheap, horrible pads (sent next day delivery). Definitely not Tokaido as the label says CIMAC. It's not even WKF-approved! We contacted them straightaway and they're claiming it's exactly the same thing. Well, IT IS NOT Tokaido and it's not even WKF-approved, so totally useless. It's false advertisement! She then went on to say they don't have Tokaido in stock and trying to convince us to keep the bad quality ones they sent. Tokaido pads are still in stock on the website. So beware! Why didn't they contact us and apologise and say we don't actually have any Tokaido products when the order was made or when we called them yesterday? We were then told to return it but we'll be paying for the postage when it's not even our fault! It's totally disgusting and terrible customer service on their part. You shouldn't ever have to pay for return postage if it's not your fault. Please be very beware when using this company. You won't get answers. There are plenty of other better companies to use. What a waste of time and money. I now have just two days to get what I originally ordered, from somewhere else. More...

My daughter started at this karate club almost two years ago after some GKR taster sessions in her school and a month later I joined and then my older daughter got on board. We’ve learned to defend ourselves, keep fit and developed new skills plus we’ve met lots of friends through karate. I’d always wanted to learn karate as a child but I have dyspraxia and find anything to do with processing movement very challenging - but after watching the students doing kata during my youngest daughter’s class I decided to give it a try and I haven’t looked back. The good thing about GKR is you can train as many times and at as many dojos as you wish as it’s all included in the direct debit - this was amazing for a dyspraxic person who needs (much) more time and practice to grasp new concepts. I also have some physical issues but everything is adapted to what I can do and those reasonable adjustments are always there. My middle daughter finally joined almost a year ago and it’s been transformational for her confidence - she has autism but she’s gone from not making eye contact and silence to joking with the instructor who took the time to bring her out of her shell - she’s competed in tournaments and has won medals. What’s great is that we do all this as a family - my children have done numerous extra-curricular activities buts there’s never been one that all of us can take part in. At GKR it is standard for adults and children to train together with the classes differentiated for age and its developed a real closeness between me and my daughters. More...
