What kind of accounting services do you provide?

We prepare all manner of personal and business tax returns and accounts. However, much more than that we provide our clients with the support and advice that they need to make well informed business decisions and optimise their tax position. We are experienced in helping start up businesses and established businesses, whether they have an in-house accounting function or not and we understand that they have differing needs.

We also provide bookkeeping and payroll services. You can decide how much assistance you would like in these areas, as everyone is different. If required we can provide full bookkeeping services including credit control. Bookkeeping services are provided using cloud based software which means that you still retain access to your records, which is important. Our bookkeeping and payroll services can be taken as a standalone service if you don't require our other accounting and tax services.

The preparation of management accounts is something that can benefit many businesses and give you insights into the business mid year. This is particularly important if the business is experiencing a period of growth or difficulty. We can prepare management accounts and have advisory meetings at intervals to suit your needs.

Why is it so important for businesses to hire a great accountant?

Being in business is challenging and you need to ensure that you have a great internal team and trusted advisors to support you. Having an accountant isn't just about filing a tax return so that you don't get a penalty. Having a relationship with a proactive accountant such as us, means that you are confident that someone is looking after your interests and giving you the information that you need to run your business effectively.

We seek to prepare your accounts and tax returns much sooner than would traditionally be the case. This is because we want the opportunity for you to benefit from tax planning opportunities, ensure that your tax bills aren't a surprise and you have your latest accounts or tax return available when they are needed to support a personal or business finance application. You can't always foresee when a finance need will arise, so it is good practice to have your accounts prepared sooner rather than later.

What do you love most about your job?

I love helping business owners. My job satisfaction comes from knowing that I have eased a client's worries, saved them money and helped them to grow their business.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I wanted to provide a quality service and really make a difference with business owners. A lot of accountancy practices still operate in traditional ways and while that is fine for some, I am aware that more people are looking for a valuable service, not to simply tick the box of being compliant. I also wanted to embrace cloud accounting and helping clients to be more efficient.

Why should our clients choose you?

We will provide a quality service that can be relied upon, within a fixed monthly fee. Our modern, friendly approach means that you feel free to get in touch with us for the help and support that you need. We will give you the knowledge, security and freedom you need to make a success of your business and reduce your stress levels.

The title 'Chartered Accountant' and the letters ACA or FCA, indicates that the person has undertaken a minimum of three years in-depth training, passed a series of examinations in financial management, auditing, business strategy and taxation as well as committing to continuing professional development.

As opposed to specialising in tax returns, a Chartered Accountant instead will focus on providing accurate records of all financial transactions for an individual or business. Consequently, this type of accountant is more likely to be found employed in a more commercial capacity.

Hiring the right Accountant for your business may take a bit of time. Who you choose to look after your accounts is vital, especially if you have plans to expand as you will need to look for someone who will get more involved in the financial side of things the bigger your company gets.

  • Research - Start with the company’s website and look at the accounting services they offer with an eye on what you might need in the future. If you choose an accountancy firm that doesn’t have the expertise to help you as your business expands, you will end up needing to finding another accountant.

  • Create a shortlist - Create a shortlist of three or four firms you
think are a good fit and arrange face-to-face meetings with all of
them. In addition to the fees, you need to find out about the
services they provide, as well as their customer services.

  • Fees - Some Accountants charge by the hour while others operate on a fixed-fee basis. You need to be clear before selecting an Accountant for your business on how their fees are calculated.

  • Qualifications - It is important to ask questions about the
qualifications and experience of the people who would be dealing with your accounts. You need to know that you could work with them, trust that they are on your side and are continually looking for ways of
adding financial value to your company.

  • Accounting software - You will want to check that any systems you use are familiar to the accounting firm. Your current method of financial reporting may not be the most effective one for your business and they may recommend systems that can do it better.

  • Financial jargon - If you are not an expert on finance, your Accountant needs to understand this and be able to communicate with you in a clear and concise manner.

You can be confident that any of the Accountants listed on Bark will be a safe pair of hands for your finances.

Before you choose an Accountant, you could ask to see examples of their work, read testimonials and ask to see references of past work they have done.
