I teach clarinet, flute, saxophone, recorder, oboe, early grade piano and music theory lessons from my home just outside Morpeth(NE62 5). I have extensive experience teaching music to both adults and children, and have taught for over 20 years. I have a 100% pass rate in Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music examinations in both practical and theory exams, and I have completed the Certificate of Teaching with the ABRSM to further enhance my skills as a teacher, and studying for further diplomas to enhance my skills in performance as a musician. I have been a private teacher for many years, and I have also taught in a number of primary and secondary schools in the area, as well as private music education establishments. I believe strongly that students need to be able to play their instruments to a standard that includes different genres and types of music in order to be able to say that they hold, for example, their ABRSM Grade 5, and with this in mind I do not rush through examinations, we will study a lot of different music so that when they take their exam they will have studied a lot of pieces that will have taught them all of the technical nuances that are required of the grade, and they will enjoy their playing more! I use a lot of different strategies whilst teaching, I put a lot of stock in playing my instruments along with the students and we will study classical pieces, learn jazz and improvisation, play duets and learn to play by ear, in addition to doing preparation for examinations should the student wish to do them. I tend to teach written theory of music as we go along with their musical education so that if they are studying for their ABRSM qualifications, the student doesn’t suddenly have to do a lot of theory in order to continue post Grade 5. I am passionate about music, passionate about education, and I hold a certificate in safeguarding specific to musical education. I look forward to speaking to you regarding your requirements for lessons, Rachel.
I love being able to teach music to all ages and abilities. It really makes my heart shine when I see my students achieving their goals in music, whether that is learning to play “We wish you a merry Christmas” for their family around their Christmas Tree, or achieving a distinction at diploma level. I love my students- they are the heart of my business and they are a huge part of my life, I love every lesson as there are new challenges and new achievements to celebrate.
I have been teaching music for over 20 years alongside another job. I decided to go full time after my daughter was born- my teaching from home allows me the time to watch her grow, whilst doing something I love that makes me happy and fulfils my life professionally.
I have a wealth of experience in teaching, I have a great deal of qualifications and have undertaken a great amount of professional Development to become the music teacher that I am, and I am passionate, dedicated and I have an exceptional success rate with ABRSM exams, all students who have undertaken exams under my Tutelage have achieved a merit or above in their ABRSM exams (130+/160). But the main reason you should choose me is that no one will be more supportive and help you get further in your musical journey.
