If my client gives me free rein to design a book cover, I will design it so that it is eye-catching in a bookshop but also, will invoke the right emotion for that particular book genre and subject. I am always happy to advise my client on choice or style or other, where required. What do you love most about your job?

Illustrating and designing has been my absolute passion from childhood. However, I never thought I could make a career of it when I left school. It was not the best of times to succeed in the industry and I was not ready. I can say that now. So I began a career in engineering. I loved being an engineer; the designing, the problem solving, the working relationships, but I always hoped one day I would return to Illustration and Design. However, that dream never got any nearer for me. In 2013 I took voluntary redundancy from my engineer job and almost immediately enrolled on a BA (Hons) Illustration and Design with University of Hertfordshire. I am now doing what I have always wanted to do, but I have the advantage of my wealth of experience in life and my work that I didnt have when I left school. I love every minute of it; the designing, the problem solving, the working relationships.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have always imagined myself as an artist; isolated, but free to decide when and where I worked. My work life to date, has been anything but isolating. The main reason why I started working for myself is so that I can control a balance. I have really enjoyed working in a team and I do miss it now I am a professional freelancing Illustrator/Designer, which is why I volunteer for local charitable organisations when I can; for the social aspect but also because I like to be useful. I can now control the balance of both worlds.

Why should our clients choose you?

I pride myself on a friendly and professional approach to my client's needs. I am fully committed to ensuring my client gets the best service, whilst having a good working relationship with me.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes, absolutely. In fact many of my clients are more than happy to work together this way.
If I need to travel on site for research purposes, I can do this alone if necessary and discuss any details and update my client on progress, on the phone or through email. Or happy to meet my client, abiding by government guidelines to protect ourselves from the risk of Covid-19.
