I love helping people, and I love building and fixing stuff - from the abstract (software and AI) to the hands-on. I have been building and fixing things for myself and for friends and family for years, with great feedback. I really enjoy it, but have a mortgage and a ‘day job’ and honestly I didn’t have the guts to jump into a hugely male-driven trade as I was worried about both sexism from other tradespeople and from some customers. However, based on my own experiences and speaking with others, I realised that so many women don’t feel confident when they need a little help with these things. Women are absolutely capable of doing a great job with this stuff, and sometimes customers - e.g. single females or the elderly - just feel safer inviting a woman into their home. Even if people aren’t fussed about their tradeperson’s gender, I just enjoy this stuff, which translates into good quality work.
