Sociable Dog is a specialist dog training and behaviour consultancy based in Portsoy, Aberdeenshire. We provide an extensive service to people in need of one to one help with their dogs whether that be for basic manners training or more challenging behaviour issues such as aggression towards other dogs or people. Once an appointment has been agreed following an initial phone call, we visit you at your home to assess the training needed. We get right down to business after that, helping you to understand what motivates your dog and to get you under way by demonstrating the techniques that will most help you and your dog. Typically, the first consultation lasts between two and three hours and may include taking things out into the world to practice in the environment you find most challenging. Following our visit we will produce a comprehensive report that will recap all that we looked at during our session together and give you a step by step plan to follow from there onward. Very often people find that one consult is enough to get them started on the training but, if you feel the need for them, more sessions can be arranged in the future at a discounted price. In more extreme cases this can be hugely advantageous. If you do decide that one session is enough, we don't leave you on your own. You get phone and email support included in the fee and you can have as much or as little as you need.

We started Sociable Dog because I found it difficult to find the right kind of help for my rescue Rottweiler, Thomson. He had a tough start to life, was aggressive towards dogs and people and had been returned to the rescue three times before he came to me. I felt I simply couldn't give up on him despite some difficult times. I was his last chance saloon but finding the right help was difficult fifteen years ago when he and I got together. I was going to have to deal with his many issues myself, but needed to find an approach that was ethically sound and kind to both of us. That need took me to The Academy for Dog Trainers which gave me the understanding of animal behaviour science that I needed to make a real impact on Thomson's life for the better.
Although Thomson left us some time ago now I still give him the credit for where I am now and, ultimately, for the existence of Sociable Dog.
