I am an accredited, reward based Dog Trainer in Ashford, Kent, offering in person Dog Training as well as online training options. I can support you and your dogs with any behavioural issue you are struggling with, or maybe you have a new puppy and want to start as you mean to go on! I specialise in helping dogs (and their humans) struggling with separation anxiety. I provide training support that is realistic for you to fit into your busy life.
I offer weekend, day time dog training classes and also weekend day time scent detection classes. In addition to this I offer mid week evening classes for customers that like to keep their weekends free. I run my own classes and sometimes help out another couple of trainers. It's good to network, share ideas and information and not get stale in your field. I am an advocate for promoting good canine manners. If we have well behaved dogs, we can include them in so much more of our daily activities. Their world becomes so much more enriched, and so do our lives for having them by our side. Our dogs don't set out to be disobedient. It's more that case that we haven't given them guidance and set boundaries for them. They don't know the rules of our world. We have to teach and train them. I also provide 1-2-1 consultations. These sessions are bespoke to you and your dog. We work towards your end goal and a maintenance programme. Learning is always a work in progress for both us and our dogs! I do have a particular passion for scent detection. The positive effects it has on our dogs is amazing. For example; Constructive mental stimulation 10 Minutes scent detection is more tiring than an hour's run It's scientifically proven that sniffing releases happy endorphins It's suitable for all dogs, any age, antisocial, nervous It reduces stress and anxiety. It is a calming activity. It's low impact. It's a suitable activity for puppies whilst they are growing. It is gentle form of exercise on the joints of older dogs. Sniffing dogs are not barking dogs! Who wouldn't want this for their dog?
When you love what you do, it doesn't feel like a job. Working with dogs is an absolute privilege. Yes, us instructors and trainers spend more time, often than not getting wet and muddy in our work. Rather that, than working in an office. Now, that really is a job!
Like everyone in this industry, it is our love of dogs. I spent 25 years working in offices. With every passing year I felt more confined and restricted and got more depressed with my life. You want to jump ship, but you worry about how you'll bridge the financial gap.
Also, I knew by being out all day, I could not and would not be able to have a dog. I knew that I would be out of the house for too many hours and I knew that I wouldn't have the time that I wanted to commit to training.
Eventually you get to a now or never moment in your life. It's a case of you'll end up regretting what you didn't do in life, rather than what you did. The thing is, once you have the courage to start being true to yourself, life has a lot more purpose.
Because I want my classes to be informative and enjoyable. No question that a customer asks is a silly one. I am with them at the early learning stages that they have with their puppy. It is a short and intense period, and for those of us that have a dog from a puppy, we are very privileged. To be part of my client's dog owing journey - it's special.
