I specialise in helping nervous and fear-reactive dogs build their confidence so that walks go from “Nightmare Mode” to being a wonderful experience that both you and your dog enjoy. I do this with current science-backed methodology that is pain-free. What does that mean? What kind of dogs do I actually work with? I focus on one specific area: building confidence on walks. The dogs I work with display signs of being nervous, fearful or are otherwise unsure how to navigate through specific situations on walks. This can be something like seeing a motorbike, a man, another dog or a cat (commonly called their trigger), but their reaction tend to be one or a few of these: - They cower - They try to flee - They snuggle up to your side (without training for this). - They hide behind your legs. - They see their trigger (what they’re trying to deal with), find a bush/lamppost/tree and pee on it, or make a big show of checking the bush/etc out. - They growl. - They lunge. - They bark. - They lay down. - They show their side. - Their tail wags to their left. - They watch (the thing) too intently - Their mouth is closed and tense (whilst watching their trigger). - They rest their weight on their front legs and stand still. - The hair along their neck, spine or before the tail may stand on end. If your dog does any of the above when they see or hear a specific thing during walkies, then there’s a good chance I’ll say yes to helping you and your dog. I can help you remotely but you will be asked to do some video homework.
Seeing the transformation of nervous and fear-reactive dogs to the confident dog they can be when out on walks!
My current dog, Twitch! He's a multi-generation ex-stray, and when I got him he was terrified of so much on walks, including cats and men. Nowadays he has two best friends (besides me) - my mother's cat and my baby brother (who's over six foot tall). He's done so well, and you can read more about it and his list of fears at http://nervousdog.training/about.
Every dog I work with gets a personalised plan and their human gets access to me every week through Zoom calls, every day through my client portal and help tracking their progress. Every dog's plan is assessed each week too - so if something isn't working I'll tweak it for you. You're not in this alone, and I've got your back.
Right now I’m working to achieve my Canine Behaviour Professional Accredited Diploma. This diploma is recognised by UK Rural Skills, Pet Professional Network and CPD Standards Office. I’m learning with Canine Principles, so Covid thankfully doesn’t affect my ability to finish my diploma.
Due to Coronavirus hitting the world, I’m only taking on clients remotely. This means you’ll have:
- Video homework with me
- Daily access to and check-ins from me (if you need it)
- A weekly or bi-weekly face-to-face Zoom call
- A tried and true method for tracking your progress
- & a personalised plan for you and your dog.
Get started by booking your free 30 minute assessment call here: http://calendly.com/jayandtwitch/30mins
I'm only working remotely / through online 1-to-1.
