I wanted to trace my grandmother’s past and knew that I needed help! Marilyn replied immediately once my request went on Bark and began giving me information straightaway even though I hadn’t agreed anything with her. I can’t recommend her enough. She is absolutely wonderful to work with and has a real desire to find out as much of your story as possible. She is extremely professional and knowledgeable, plus her ability to navigate systems and websites is amazing. She gave me a deep understanding of not only my family history but also the kind of life they would have been living. Marilyn kept me informed throughout the process and was very aware of what information I was looking for.

Before I started working with Marilyn (The Sum Of You) I knew little about my antecedents and had only a few photographs from my parents to shed light on their generation of family and friends. Marilyn undertook family research on my behalf to find out about my wife’s family of which, other than her parents, we knew very little.
With very little to go on, Marilyn did a truly amazing job. Her enthusiasm and fun character made the whole thing a real joy and with great results. She established that my wife’s family had relatives in Australia and many interesting stories about them.

Total enthusiasm & joy of the work she is undertaking for me

Commissioned Marilyn to research the paternal and maternal sides of my wife's family as a birthday gift. We held only brief documentary information in respect of my wife's paternal side and nothing in relation to her maternal side. Despite this apparent lack of information Marilyn was able to surpass her role on this project, providing an unique insight into my wife's families and in the process encouraged direct engagement with the process by collating personal recollections of individuals, thereby bringing their stories to life for future family generations.
