The Maths Doctor

Stephen supported me through my sixth form years and my A-level retakes, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better tutor, or a better person, to guide me through such a pivotal period of my life.

While he primarily helped me with Maths, Stephen was much more than a subject tutor. He acted as a broader academic mentor and advisor, helping me make sense of what path might suit me best, especially after I didn’t initially get the grades for my university of choice. His guidance through that period was incredibly valuable. He didn’t just help with subject knowledge but helped me piece together a plan and keep my confidence up during a very uncertain time.

What truly sets Stephen apart is his ability to understand how you think. In many ways, he understood my learning style and way of processing ideas better than I did. He adapted his teaching approach to fit me, and always explained things in a way that clicked immediately. Every session felt intentional, clear, and tailored, and there was never confusion left on the table.

On top of that, Stephen is simply a brilliant person to work with. He’s personable, deeply knowledgeable in a wide range of fields, and draws his own experience and logic to provide valuable insight into any niche topic you might have an interest in. He always had interesting stories, analogies, or examples that made sessions engaging and memorable.
He didn’t just help me grow academically but personally as well. He influenced how I think, how I learn, and the kind of person I strive to be.

I’ll definitely miss our regular meetings, not just for the academic help, but for the conversations, motivation, and insight. I couldn’t recommend Stephen more highly to anyone looking for a tutor who is as deeply invested in you as they are in the subject matter. More...

With Stephen’s help, I was able to tackle the Cambridge entrance exam and interview and ultimately secure an offer to study Physics. He played a pivotal role in developing my core problem-solving skills and mathematical thinking.

Stephen is a highly experienced teacher who really understands boys and can teach a cat Further Mathematics to achieve good grades.
