He even laid a new back step for us while he was here, a job which wasn't even on the itinerary but did it when asked on the day. I first met Richard when he came to see what work my Mum needed in her back garden, to create a place of beauty for Mum to look out on from her lounge. Since then, despite the awful weather we have all experienced, Richard has worked tirelessly to bring the garden back to life. We can only admire his commitment and dedication very much. What do you love most about your job?
At RT Gardens, what I love most is taking an outdoor space that’s been overlooked or worn down and turning it into something clean, functional, and genuinely impressive. There’s a real sense of pride in creating patios, paths, and garden features that are built properly — solid foundations, perfect levels, sharp lines, and a finish that speaks for itself.
I enjoy the challenge each project brings. No two gardens are the same, and solving issues like drainage, gradients, access, or layout is something I thrive on. It’s satisfying to apply skill, accuracy, and discipline to get everything exactly right.
But the best part is the transformation. Seeing a customer step outside and realise how different their space feels — how much more usable, tidy, and enjoyable it is — that’s the moment that makes the hard work worthwhile. RT Gardens is built on that feeling: taking pride in the craft and delivering results that last.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I started RT Gardens because I’ve always had a strong drive to create outdoor spaces that feel clean, organised, and genuinely enjoyable to use. There’s something incredibly satisfying about taking a garden that’s uneven or unused and turning it into a space with purpose — a patio that’s perfectly level, a path that guides you through the garden, or a layout that simply makes sense.
What inspired me most was the idea of building a business where the quality of the work speaks for itself. I wanted the freedom to set high standards, take the time to do things properly, and deliver results that last. Landscaping gives you that immediate sense of achievement: you can see the transformation right in front of you.
RT Gardens was born from that passion — the desire to create solid, reliable, well‑finished outdoor spaces and to give customers something they’re genuinely proud of.
