We worked with Most architecture for over 5 years to obtain our perfect home. It took so long because of Covid (2 years of enforced pause) and laborious freeholders, but through it all Olga and her team were great. We have never regretted choosing them to design our complex remodel of our ground floor maisonette. They’re solutions were beautiful and innovative and everyone who sees it is impressed by the details and the overall look that fits well with the existing building.

We were very scared at embarking on such a big project and had never done anything like this before and this was our family home -so it had to be right. But now, we are sitting in our finished house and it is beautiful.

As the seasons change it’s amazing to see the light travel through and how it alters everything. And also finding different views and vantages that throw up interesting details as we move round the space.

Our children love the space and so do we. We could not have done this without Most.

I truly believe Olga is the best thing that happened to us during the renovation of our house. She is very creative, has lots of ideas and solutions, and - most importantly - tries to help you save money. We were on quite a tight budget, so she helped us keep the costs down while at the same time making the place look a million dollars. She is a perfectionist, and her attention to (even the smallest) detail is incredible. The way she deals with contractors... it's phenomenal! She would spend 10 minutes talking to our builders, and - boom! - they've agreed to do things that they previously stated were "impossible", or got them to finally agree to put the price down etc. She will not let go until everything is up to standard. I am absolutely in awe of her. Here is a little story that pretty much sums it all up. Once, during a meeting with Olga, I get a call from a wooden flooring company telling me they cannot send me the thousand or so samples I wanted, because their policy is 3 samples per order only. Olga overhears me talking to them and demands the phone. One minute later, the box of samples is sent to my address. :) This is just one of many examples of the wonders this woman does. Renovation is such a stressful process, so if you want peace of mind - look no further, she's the one for you. More...

We commissioned MOST Architecture to provide a design for a traditional Russian spa - or "banya" in West London. Whilst the location on Chiswick High Street was very favourable, the space itself had many constraints - the shape was long and narrow, there was a change in level and quite low ceilings throughout. We needed to fit in a lot of different spaces - reception, changing rooms, the main steam room, or "Parnaya", a wet zone with a plunge pool, a relaxation lounge with booths, toilets and back of house with kitchen, staff room, plant room and office. It was a real challenge to design a space that contained all the desired functional rooms whilst providing for a logical and efficient customer flow.
MOST came up with a inventive design of curved walls for the steam room which became the focal point and the main feature of the spa. The shower enclosure and the plunge pool followed the same circular pattern. The challenge of a limited ceiling height was overcome with coffered stretch ceiling enclosures creating light wells in the otherwise constrained space.
The use of glass blocks in the wet zone visually expanded the space and enhanced the feeling of a premium spa. We particularly liked the mosaic tiles proposed by MOST for the plunge pool - hexagon silver mosaics with a mother of pearl effect evoke the image of an icy pond offering a welcome cooling off after the heat of the steam room.
The colours and other details of the space all combine to create a sense of Nordic nature - serene and soothing.
We are very happy with the resulting product and get a lot of compliments from the customers.

We requested the services of MOST Architecture after buying a new property which had a cramped, dated layout that was in need of a re-jig. Initially we were considering a loft extension, however the plans and ideas provided by our architect at MOST dissuaded us from this and provided some very good value ideas for opening up and rationalising the existing space. We would not have identified these options without their input. The works are now underway and we are already seeing major improvements towards a much lighter, modern and open layout. More...

We feel so lucky to have been introduced to Olga McMurdo. She is a brilliant architect and an intelligent and thoughtful person.
We already had a basic idea of what we wanted from our joined-up pair of Victorian terraced houses, but Olga gave us the inspiring ideas which have made an exceptionally beautiful and spacious room. One idea increased the side-return roof angle to give a feeling of height into our former low-ceilinged extension. The extension had also been quite dark and her walk-on skylights have let light in and have created an amazing feeling of space. Although we were relatively experienced at house refurbishment, these were things which we would never have thought of ourselves.

We would highly recommend OlgaWe had interviewed several architects before Olga was recommended to us, and all the others had tried to push us towards their ideas and schemes. Olga never made us feel any pressure and always explained her ideas, with drawings, very clearly.

Olga took great trouble with all the detailed work involved in producing and writing up all the specifications and in her analysis of the quotes returned. Her help with interviewing our short listed builders was invaluable.

Through the project, her site visits and dealings with the structural engineers and the building Inspectors were always thorough. Olga always goes out of her way to be helpful and give advise even ofter the project was signed off.

When we began looking for an architect to convert our 2 bed 1 bath into a 3 bed 2bath, we met with A LOT. MOST stood out and were the company we decided to go with because we felt that Olga really listened to what we wanted, saw what we needed, and would be able to deliver. And her and her team have. It has been a very lengthy process (Covid and other issues haven't helped) and throughout, they have been helpful, patient and responsive. They have listened and provided a design that we love and then helped us obtain planning (complicated because of leasehold status) and are currently assisting us with choosing a contractor.
If you want attention to detail, dedication and imagination, I would definitely recomment MOST.

The guys from MOST really reflected on what we vaguely imagined, and drew it up. Got planning, where we had a refusal before, also helped us win an appeal on another option. Helped manage the building contract. Excellent! More...

We bought a two-storey house in a run down state that we wanted to modernise and extend. The architect not only helped us achieve an impressive family home, suited to our particular tastes and requirements, but also to increase the value of the property by many multiples of the project cost. Throughout she worked patiently with our specific needs and requirements, including the odd occasion where we changed our mind! Olga from MOST advised and prepared all planning, permissions and building regulation materials, and took away the hassle of dealing with any of that stuff. And also prepared the tender pack so that we could begin the discussions with contractors on a professional and balanced basis. I'm sure in the end that saved us a lot of unnecessary cost and hassle. In the end, the design of the rear dormer loft extension with deep lightwells and a bespoke-designed staircase has a number of beautiful and unique features - and by cleverly avoiding bog-standard techniques and approaches, Olga really made the most of our building and our budget. Olga has done a tremendous job for me. She has provided a professional approach in everything required and although not the cheapest quote, I felt I was still getting value for money. All plans were very detailed and she provided help in obtaining planning permission, an approved inspector (as opposed to council) which has proved t be a good decision and a structural engineer. Her communication was excellent and always gave a prompt response to any of my questions. My builder remarked how good her plans were to work from. I would thoroughly recommend Olga if your looking for that personal touch and some great design ideas. Thank you Olga. More...

We employed Olga to design a new rear extension, as part of a full renovation of a Victorian terrace. We wanted an extension that created as much new living space as possible, focused spend in specific areas and was different to the standard 3x3m box extension. We were nervous as we’ve never attempted anything like this before and didn’t know where to start. We chose Olga over other architects as she was a great communicator in her initial responses, she reassured us she would help us through the process as well as designing the extension, she listened to our requirements and showed real creativity when we first met. Having now worked closely with her we can confirm our initial impressions were right. She has been great. The design is beyond our initial expectations and it’s been a collaborative process where she's listened to our feedback and adjusted items accordingly. She has also helped us through each stage of the design, providing guidance on structural engineers, buildings inspectors, contractors, suppliers etc as well as navigating what was a tricky planning process. Everyone we’ve worked with has commented on the detail of her drawings and the quality of the design. The detailed schedule of works produced has made it easier to compare contractor quotes and make choices on the final design/finishes to get us closer to our budget. She has demonstrated real passion for our project and a genuine desire to make an incredible living space for our family. More...

Q&As

Our interior design process is architecture-led. We begin by understanding how the space needs to work, the character and constraints of the building, the client’s priorities and the available budget.

We establish the layout, circulation, lighting and technical requirements before developing materials, bespoke joinery, furniture and details. Drawings, samples and 3D visualisations allow clients to understand the proposals clearly, compare options and make decisions in a logical sequence.

Once the design is agreed, we can prepare information for pricing and construction and coordinate the consultants, suppliers and contractors. We can work with the client’s existing team or introduce trusted professionals and specialist suppliers from our established network, selected to suit the project. Involving the right people at the right time helps smooth the transition from design to delivery and resolve practical issues early.

The service can be tailored and appointed in clearly defined stages.

MOST does not impose a fixed house style. Each interior responds to the client, the building and the way the space will be used.

Our work is generally contemporary and carefully detailed, but can range from minimal and understated to warm, richly layered or industrial, as well as sensitive interventions within historic and listed buildings. We also create distinctive identities for workplaces, restaurants and hospitality environments.

Rather than reproducing a standard look or theme, we use proportion, light, colour, materials and detailing to create an interior that feels coherent, individual and appropriate to its setting.

We most enjoy the point when a difficult brief begins to resolve into a place that feels both distinctive and completely natural to use. Architecture is most rewarding when design, technical constraints, budget and the client’s ambitions are considered together—not treated as separate problems.

After working at leading international architectural practices, we wanted to create a studio where ambitious design was combined with direct, senior involvement throughout a project. MOST was founded so that the person leading the design remains closely engaged with the client, consultants and contractor from the first ideas through to delivery.

MOST is a RIBA Chartered Practice combining strong design with practical delivery. Our work ranges from substantial homes and conservation projects to workplaces, R&D environments, hospitality and complex refurbishment.

Every project is director-led. We help clients test feasibility early, understand planning, cost and technical risks, and coordinate the team through design, approvals, tender and construction. We are best suited to clients looking for a thoughtful, individual solution rather than a standard package or simply the lowest-cost appointment.

Yes. Initial consultations, brief development, feasibility reviews, design workshops and much of the consultant coordination can be undertaken remotely.

For projects requiring a survey, planning assessment or construction input, we combine remote working with the necessary site visits. We regularly coordinate clients and project teams across different locations.

We continue to offer video meetings, digital design reviews and secure online document sharing whenever these are more convenient for the client. Site visits and in-person meetings are arranged appropriately for the project and those involved.

Services

An early-stage review of the brief, property, planning context, budget, programme and likely route to delivery. We advise on development potential and planning risk—including listed buildings, conservation areas, change of use and complex alterations—and define the appropriate next steps. The aim is to test the project before the client commits to a larger appointment.

Director-led architectural services from concept and planning through technical design, tendering and construction. We work on substantial residential transformations, workplaces, R&D and light-production environments, hospitality projects and complex refurbishments. Appointments can be structured in clearly defined stages, with the scope expanded as the project develops.

Architecture-led interior design for homes, workplaces, R&D environments, restaurants and other commercial spaces. Our service can include layouts, lighting, materials, bespoke joinery, furniture, 3D visualisations, technical coordination and information for pricing and construction. We can work with an existing team or introduce trusted consultants, specialist suppliers and contractors suited to the project.

Design and strategic advice for listed buildings, conservation areas and technically demanding existing-building projects. Led by Olga McMurdo, an RIBA Conservation Registrant, the service combines sensitive design with practical consideration of historic fabric, approvals, Building Regulations, building services, phasing and construction risk.

For clients, contractors and project teams who need an architectural lead during detailed design, tender or construction. We coordinate drawings and specialist information, respond to technical queries, review proposals against the design intent and help resolve issues as work progresses. This can also support projects requiring design recovery or clearer coordination before work starts on site.
