How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
garage may be suitable for conversion if it’s structurally sound, has adequate head height (typically around 2.2m), and isn’t affected by damp or flooding. Key things to check include solid foundations, planning or covenant restrictions, and whether utilities like electrics or drainage can be easily connected.

Initial Assessment – A structural engineer or designer inspects the garage to check suitability and discuss your goals.
Design & Planning – Scaled drawings are produced, and planning permission or a lawful development certificate is obtained if needed.
Building Regulations & Structural Design – Structural calculations and detailed technical drawings are prepared to meet Building Control requirements.
Construction – Work begins on insulation, new walls, flooring, windows/doors, and any internal changes like heating, electrics, or plumbing.
Inspections & Sign-off – Building Control carries out site inspections during the build and issues a completion certificate once everything complies.
Each stage ensures your conversion is safe, legal, and fit for purpose.
How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
The main thing to check is whether there is enough head height available in the loft. Ideally, you want 2.4m from the top of the ceiling joists to the underside of the ridge board. This will allow enough height to install RSJs which are required for the floor supports and also allow enough height to increase the size of the rafters if required.

Design & Planning – Detailed drawings are created. Depending on the design, you may need planning permission or a certificate of lawful development.
Structural Calculations & Building Regs – Structural designs and calculations are prepared for steel beams, floor reinforcement, and roof alterations, and submitted to Building Control.
Construction Phase – This includes installing steelwork, floor joists, dormers or roof windows, insulation, stairs, and internal finishes like plastering, electrics, and plumbing.
Final Inspection & Certification – Building Control conducts final checks and issues a completion certificate once everything meets regulations.

The majority of our services are not provided Online or Remotely. We need to visit the property to carry out a survey to start the drawing process.
There are times when structural calculations can be proivded without attending site, but there should be accurate architectural drawings in place for this to happen.
