Small but historically significant castle atop a hill that played a key role in the civil war. It has changed significantly from the original defensive structure, and this is explained extremely well in the exhibition on site, which includes an excellent video presentation. The castle itself can be visited in 20 mins; in fact, you'll only need an hour or so to take in everything. But if you're in Farnham, it would be a shame to miss it. Nowadays, the Bishop's Palace anjoining the main keep serves as a beautiful venue for private functions, interestingly mirroring its past function when visited by royalty. More...

Great hotel and beautiful grounds, great staff as well but let down by charges and some stinginess. As a wedding venue guests needs to access rooms before weddings start. Instead of making this standard (every other venue I've stayed in just allows you to go to your room early without issue but I was told this was normal like I was wrong) Farnham Castle make you pay £20 extra for early check in knowing you have no other choice. The rooms are already expensive and as a wedding venue this is deliberately done knowing you need access to get ready so the prices should just be increased, but they hide this by telling you after you have paid the non-refundable payment. After paying close to £300 for a nights stay I was also questioned when I went to the desk in the morning to ask for an extra coffee sachet why I needed more as two were provided with the room. I should be able to get an extra 10p sachet without being questioned as to why I need more than two drinks. We likely would have booked this venue for our wedding but the extra charge was a red flag. We don't want our guests to feel misled with an extra charge and it makes us think that other charges may be sprung on us at the last minute with the wedding so it was a good stay but I'd expect to be treated better for the price without the misleading extra charge. It would be 5 stars if not the breakfast. Whole experience was amazing. However, the breakfast could kill. It seemed like it was done hours ago and lightly warmed up just before serving. Bread hard like a rock, poached egg was poached at least twice, tomato have been resurrected just before serving, mushroom (1xflat mushroom) imitated a puck. The worst was "bacon"- but this one you need to see yourself. The person preparing the breakfast had to put so much effort to make it so bad, is honestly unbelievable. Even if you can't cook, you are not able to make something like it. Never in my life I've seen something like that before. One of the beautiful English Heritage in Farnham to visit. Carpark and visit was free or charge. It take less than half an hour to visit. Staff were so attentive and friendly and happy to explain the place to you at the entrance. We visited on a Sunday and there was a Wedding Event in their Hotel which was nice to see people dressed up and few of them came on top of the castle to take photos. The only recommendation I would have is for their public toilets, with no hand wash filled up unfortunately was a put off thing. More...
