A garage may be suitable for conversion if it has adequate ceiling height, a sound structure, good access, suitable foundations and no major damp issues. You’ll also need to check insulation, ventilation, drainage, utilities and whether planning permission or Building Regulations approval is required.

A typical garage conversion involves several key stages.
Survey & Planning
Check the existing structure, foundations, ceiling height, damp, drainage and access, then agree the new room layout and check planning/Building Regulations requirements.
Strip Out & Preparation
Remove the garage door, old fittings and anything no longer required, then prepare the existing structure for conversion.
Structural & Building Work
Build up the former garage-door opening, install windows and doors, make structural alterations and complete any required drainage or groundwork.
Insulation & Damp Protection
Upgrade the floor, walls and roof to meet current standards, including insulation, damp protection and ventilation.
First-Fix Services
Install electrical wiring, sockets, lighting, plumbing, heating and drainage where required.
Internal Construction
