Emergency Home Care
Providing emergency adult social care services and helping hospital admission avoidance
EMCAS know all too well the difficulties that are faced when trying to provide people with the care they need in order to avoid unnecessary transportation to hospital on the basis of social care requirements.
Emergency adult social care for hospital avoidance is delivered by our well trained and committed team of Community Carers. EMCAS is able to take referrals directly from the ambulance service, A&E, GPs and primary health care providers as well as other services with the aim of providing emergency social care in the community.
Falls at home response team
According to Public Health England (2020) falls are a serious and common heath risk for people living in England, and that people over the age of 65 have the highest risk of falling. It is stated that approximately 1 in 3 people aged 65 and over and around 50% of people aged 85 and over fall at least once a year.
Falling can cause us to have a loss of confidence, it can cause us pain and discomfort, it can lead to a loss of independence and mobility.
Ambulance Services across the country are receiving an increasing number of 999 calls each year for falls in the elderly, many of these calls are for none injury falls and are simply made because home carer teams or care home staff have a “NO LIFT POLICY” meaning that they are unable to help a person from the floor.
It is our aim to have a number of our workplace champions at EMCAS trained to First Response Emergency Care Level 3 (FREC 3). This will enable our staff to provide first response emergency care within the community and enable the assessment and treatment of life threatening injuries and conditions. Additionally it will also enable our teams to take and record clinical observations to some degree and provide support and updates to clinical staff and emergency services when required.
Our vision is to have all EMCAS community home carers trained in the use of manual handling and lifting equipment to offer safe and controlled assistance to people who have fallen in their homes, this may reduce the potential need for an ambulance to be called. There are a number of schemes already in place in Lincolnshire that offer this service and we would like to do our part in alleviating Ambulance Service and hospital pressures.
Lifeline Response
Our team at EMCAS are dedicated to providing effective care to people in our community. Some people do not wish to have carers enter their home to provide care as they are independent enough to look after themselves.
A lifeline can give you that peace of mind should an emergency ever happen. All it requires is a small piece of technology fitted into your home that links to your telephone, you are given a bracelet or necklace to wear with a button built in. Should you ever need help in an emergency you press the button which sends an immediate message to the call centre and they are able to communicate with you through a small speaker and determine what the problem is.
If required EMCAS can dispatch one of our responders to your home and attend to your needs.
Companionship Service
Loneliness is an unpleasant and emotional experience that none of us want to feel. A lack of interaction and the ability to engage in conversation with other people can cause a person to feel isolated. It is estimated that over 4 million people in the older generation within the UK are experiencing loneliness.
Of course perceptions of loneliness vary from person to person, some people may be surrounded by friends and family and still feel loneliness due to feeling that nobody understands how certain medical problems have changed them or make them feel. Our team at EMCAS have worked closely with a wide range of patient groups and have understanding of a variety of health conditions meaning we are able empathise with you or your loved one.
EMCAS team are always friendly, cheerful, and like to build close-knit family orientated friendships with our service users. In some areas we aim to introduce a pop-in companionship service in-between our carers visits. This is where a member of our community team will call in for 5-10 minutes just to have a chat and a good old cup of tea to break up the day for you or your loved one. We can even arrange little day trips out.
If you, or somebody you know who is not actively being cared for by EMCAS may benefit from our companionship service give us a call and we may be able to offer some help or advice.
