How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
There re several aspects to consider.
These include- is there sufficient headroom?, what is the pitch of the roof? what is the roof structure (trusses etc). How many storeys above the ground floor is the loft? Where might a stair up into the space be fitted? Is the property listed or in a conservation area?
Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
The process is likely to commence with a survey of the roof- to establish the structure and dimensions of the space. A desktop check of the local authority contastraints will clarify any statutory consdierations. Measured, scaled drawings are prepared. Proposals agree, then planning and buiding warrant applications submitted to the local authority. Upon approval, more detailed info can be prepared and issued to a selection of contractors who are suitable to undertake the type of work. Prices obtained will be on a like fro like basis and a preferred contractor can be cohsen. Enter into a standard building contract and commence the work. When it is completed, the local authority inspector will check the work against the approved drawings and subject to their satisfaction, a completion certificate is issued.
