Secured Loan (Second Charge Mortgage)
A secured loan is a loan that typically offers a lower interest rate because it has the security of being protected against your home. Secured loans are usually offered over longer terms.
Remortgage
This is when you repay your existing mortgage with a new one. Some examples of why you would remortgage could be if your fixed rate mortgage is coming to an end and you want to avoid being put on your lender’s Standard Variable Rate (SVR), or if you are on an SVR and you would like to swap to a fixed rate, you want to change the type of mortgage you’re on e.g. interest only to a capital and repayment mortgage, you might want to raise additional capital for home improvements or a significant purchase. You would like to raise some additional funds and therefore need to lend more money than your current lender can offer you. Personal examples would be separating from a partner, worried about rates rising or even consolidating debt. In short whatever the reason, the new mortgage pays off and takes over the old mortgage.
Purchase
The purchase of your first, a new or an additional home. The process sees the transfer of the property from one person to another by an agreement paid for usually by way of a mortgage.
First Time Buyer
You are considered a First Time Buyer when you are buying a property for the very first time and have never previously owned a property before.
Buy-to-Let
,This is where you buy an additional property with the specific intention and purpose of renting it out to tenants and becoming a landlord.
