We have been with Bluebird for 10 months now, the Bluebird carers help my husband with washing, shaving, dressing and his mobility with a hoist. I am his main carer and have been for years, but it got to a point i was struggling to do it on my own, he needed more equipment. Bluebird have been a god send, the carers are professional, reliable and my husband and I have made good connections with them. Communication with the office is tremendous, i know if i need extra help with any problem i can pick the phone up and know they will be there. I highly recommend Bluebird Care. More...

The induction training with Karen was really thorough. I really enjoyed the learning experience. The concepts and ideas covered the legal and moral challenges of being a responsible carer The process was both entertaining and really informative. I felt I understood so much more about person centred care after the course. I also understood more about the demands and emotional challenges of the job. I felt that Bluebird would be a really responsive and supportive employer. I could also see why this is such a rewarding career Karen made the training fun and was so supportive. More...

Broken promises, unfair treatment and poor working standards I accepted this role based on a formal written agreement clearly stating I would receive 25 hours of work each week. Once I started, it quickly became clear they were unable to deliver what was originally agreed. They tried to change the terms of my contract, and when I did not agree, my employment was ended. They later claimed my original offer had no value and was not part of our agreement, which is misleading and completely unfair. Working practices here are unsafe and fall well below expected standards. I was regularly notified of shifts less than an hour before they were due to start, sometimes when I was already out. This left me no proper time to read care notes or prepare adequately for visits, yet this was later recorded as a concern against me. All the reasons given for ending my employment were untrue. I was accused of things that simply did not happen, and claims were made about my work that were never raised with me at the time. Standard induction training usually takes around 3 weeks, but I was kept training and shadowing for 3 months – far longer than normal. Records were later changed to say I had completed only a small number of shifts, but my own payslips prove otherwise. This company does not keep its word, treats staff unfairly and operates below the standards you should expect. I would not recommend working here. More...

Sadly, I cannot recommend Bluebird based on our experience with them. Finding care for a parent with dementia is one of the hardest decisions a family has to make. We placed our trust in Bluebird to provide a safe, reliable and caring live-in service for our mum, but over time that trust was completely eroded. The biggest issue was the lack of communication. Emails were regularly ignored, we were not kept informed when carers changed, and we were left trying to work out who was actually caring for Mum. Despite the significant cost of the service, we were never provided with regular invoices or a clear explanation of charges. The monthly cost increased from around £6,000 to approximately £13,000, without proper consultation or transparency. We were also extremely uncomfortable with how our personal information was handled. We were repeatedly told that GDPR meant Bluebird could not provide us with basic contact details for carers, yet information about Mum’s care was shared with people who did not have Lasting Power of Attorney or any legal authority to be involved in decisions about her care. This inconsistency caused a great deal of concern and damaged our confidence in the company. The most upsetting thing was feeling that Mum’s needs were not always being prioritised. Someone living with dementia needs patience, supervision and genuine engagement, and unfortunately we reached a point where we no longer felt confident that Bluebird was providing the level of care and attention that she deserved. We gave Bluebird opportunities to address our concerns, but sadly things did not improve. We have now moved Mum to another provider, and we only wish we had made the decision sooner. Choosing care for a vulnerable family member is incredibly personal, and families need to feel they can trust the people looking after their loved ones. Unfortunately, our experience with Bluebird left us feeling let down. More...

I can thoroughly recommend Bluebird Care to anyone needing care for themselves or their relatives. The carers are professional and good natured and Mum looks forward to their visits. This wasn't always the case as Mum has dementia and initially didn't see the need for assistance. Bluebird worked with me to build her trust and were always happy to tweak timings of visits and regularly review her care plan. A real bonus for me is the excellent communication via phone, email and the online system they use. Working for this company has been absolutely shocking and a complete let down of what I was expecting. I didn't even last a year before I started to feel like I was being pushed to quit my role. Being called in for things that are irrelevant constantly and for other people's mistakes, not dealing with any concerns raised properly, taking hours off me when I've asked for more, belittling me and making me feel like my presence in this company wasn't important. I never felt like I was taken seriously by majority of the staff in the office and when concerns were raised it was pushed to one side and forgotten about. One member of staff said that if anyone felt overwhelmed and needed to talk they could so I finally spoke up about how I felt and how the company was making me feel and I felt like I was being laughed at rather than being spoken to and discussing how I was feeling. Upon quitting my role i made sure that these concerns were mentioned again about how the company made me feel and yet again this was completely ignored. I appreciate the experience I gained while working for Bluebird Care; however, overall I found the working environment extremely stressful. The most positive part of the role was the contact with clients in their homes. I met many kind people and genuinely enjoyed supporting them One of the biggest challenges was the rota pattern — finishing work at 10 pm and starting again at 7 am the following morning often left very little time for proper rest. After raising concerns about this, my working hours were significantly reduced, making it difficult to earn enough to cover basic living costs. Another issue was the expectation to remain available from early morning until late evening, while the actual paid working time was often only around 6–7 hours per day. In practice, only client contact time was fully paid. The role also involved significant driving on poor rural roads, which put considerable strain on my personal vehicle. Although mileage was paid, I personally did not feel it reflected the real costs of maintaining a car for this type of work. I also found communication with the office very difficult. In situations involving misunderstandings, I often felt blamed rather than supported, and interactions with management created a high level of stress and anxiety for me. Personally, I never felt like part of a supportive team environment. I believe future employees should be aware of the realities of the role and working conditions before accepting the position. Respite care is usually a short-term package of care from someone who isn’t your loved one's regular carer. Respite care from Bluebird Care would take place in their own home and allow you, as their usual carer, time to rest and take care of yourself so you are better able to take care of them.

At Bluebird Care we understand that for you to provide the very best care to your loved one, you also need to take good care of yourself. Time to rest and recharge is essential, as is having someone you can trust look after your loved one. Our reliable, compassionate care assistants are fully trained, giving you the peace of mind you need to take that much needed break.

How can respite care help me?

By having a trusted care assistant support your loved one you will have that much needed time to take care of yourself. You can tend to your personal errands, have some time out of the house and recharge your batteries both mentally and physically. This added support can help you to take care of yourself, meaning you can take better care of your loved one.

Short breaks can be of great benefit to not just yourself, but also the person you care for. They offer the opportunity to do something a bit different and the chance to meet new people.

Benefits of respite care

As we get older, life starts to slow down. At Bluebird Care, we understand that sometimes it can be difficult to plan social activities around your busy schedule. If it’s for yourself or perhaps you have ageing family members nearby, or across the country, it can help just knowing that there is a friendly, caring companion who visits regularly.

Companion care is one of our most requested services. When one of our Bluebird Care care assistants provides companionship care, they become a trusted companion who can keep you or your loved one socially engaged in their own home, and also accompany you or them on visits with friends, family, and to other social events.

At Bluebird Care, our companionship services may cover a wide range of activities where we are able to provide support, for example:

General companionship and conversation
Help with your weekly shopping
Joining in with your favourite hobbies
Help with general domestic tasks (cleaning, laundry etc.)
Help with travel arrangements
Driving you where you would like to go
Arranging and accompanying you to and from appointments
Planning outings and visits
The aim of our companionship services is to ensure that you or your loved ones can lead happy, healthy and stimulating lives in the comfort of their own home or residence.

Night Care at home is an essential part of our offering at Bluebird Care. Our dedicated team of people work through the night, so that our customers can feel and remain well supported and cared for whatever the time.

Sleeping Night

The care assistant sleeps at the property for a minimum of eight hours and is on hand if required. This option will suit if you don’t require regular support, but feel uncomfortable when left alone throughout the night. Anxieties and sleep deprivation can soon be improved with a sleeping night care professional there to support you. Having that extra night care at home can really help you remain healthy and happy. If assistance is needed more than twice during the night, this will be considered a waking night.

Waking Night

The care professional is on duty throughout the night for a minimum of eight hours. This is the best support option if you or a loved one wakes several times perhaps being disorientated or needing to go to the bathroom. If you wake at regular intervals during the night to change position due to injury, or if you have to administer medication at regular intervals, this is likely to be the best choice for you.

The waking night care professional is there at your side as and when you need them for the duration of the night, providing a high level of expert support.

Staying fit and healthy is an important part of maintaining good mental and physical fitness at any age. If a customer has an interest and ability to participate in local physical activities, our care assistants are able to support them and be involved. Or perhaps a customer may want support to do some simple exercises at home.

Benefits of Physical Activity

A healthy active lifestyle helps stimulate the brain and assists in staying independent. It can also be immensely enjoyable.

Physical activity helps to:

Reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases
