We recently got a puppy after many years of wanting one and tons and tons of research but nothing prepared me for the puppy blues that hit. I reached out to The Family Dog Academy for the puppy course and Anthony came over to do a free consultation, no obligation and provided lots of reassurance and tips. This alone was so helpful that we knew we wanted to go for the top package- not only for our puppy but for our own minds. The sessions were really fun, insightful and engaging. We learnt so much from Anthony and he was incredibly supportive and patient, whilst also providing the why behind all that we were doing. My dog is a rescue from Dubai she wasn’t really trained in much except absolute basics. Anthony was so good, I only had four sessions and the change in my dog is amazing. He’s also taught me how to reinforce good behaviour and I can now carry on the training by myself.
He was consistent and friendly and very easy to chat to.

I had acquired a 7year old rescue labrador. I quickly discovered walks with him were a nightmare if we encountered any dogs. He would lunge and charge at the other dog, and being a big strong dog, I couldn't restrain him, and it would end in either a dog fight, or verbal abuse at me from the owner. Walks became me scanning ahead for a sight of another dog, and changing direction before my lab saw them and could react. Things came to a head on the Kennet canal tow path, where he nearly had me, and a dog owner in the water. I realised if I wanted to keep my dog I needed help. That is when I found Anthony, dog trainer, from The Family Dog Academy. We had four lessons, weeks apart to allow me to put into practice what I had been shown. Anthony showed nothing but patience and kindness, and I am not kidding, after just three of the four lessons I had a different dog!! The change was amazing! I now have a dog that walks beautifully with or without the lead, and who greets other dogs calmly and politely. I no longer scan the horizons for fear of encountering dogs. In fact we stop and enjoy chats with other dog owners. None of this would have happened, if I hadn't taken the steps to do something about it. Loved James so helpful and a good starting point. Also good to know that l am working in the right direction with what lm doing

James is a really kind and caring person, his training is excellent. We learned a lot about our dog’s behaviour and why they were displaying the challenging behaviour. Our Bichon is now enjoying his walks much more and we are not stressed after a walk with him. James was also very understanding of our individual difficulties and was able to offer guidance that was specific to our needs as owners. I highly recommend James to anyone needing a dog trainer.

James is very easy to work with, he is informative and gives lots of helpful tips and ideas. He assessed the relationship between me and my dog and quickly explained what was going wrong. Basically, I was trying in vain to dissuade my dog from using undesired behaviour, when what I need to be doing is making it very clear that this behaviour is not allowed. He then showed me what I needed to do to achieve this, and worked on building my confidence in managing the behaviours. Things started to improve immediately, but it is very much a work in progress. I feel much safer now and although I am much stricter, my dog is still very happy and enjoying his walks. I am very happy with the service James provided.

Excellent response to my request initially from the lovely receptionist then a free consultation given to ensure me and my dog were matched with the right trainer. James has been invaluable in enabling me to better understand my rescue dog and how to train her (and myself 😅) so that we are confident on walks and around children. After only 3 sessions the improvement has been wonderful and we both enjoy our walks without any stress. I am confident that I can contact James at any time if I need any further help with Rosie.
