Just completed my first return with Short and Sons, following a changeover from my previous accountant of 16 years due to his retirement. I am old school. Always have been. Me and technology aren't the best of friends. My old accountant was old school too so we got along just fine.So when he announced his retirement I knew that the 21st century would catch up with me pretty quickly. A scary thought.I have always kept it simple and used a bog standard spreadsheet that I designed myself when I first started. Never had a problem.I spoke with 4 accountants before Jason (in order of distance from my house). Those 4 just weren't interested in me, my business, how I present my accounts to them etc.It was very much a case of "this is how much we charge, shall I send the forms over". No attempt at building a relationship.Then I had a chat with Jason. Really nice chap who understands things from my point of view. I emailed him over my spreadsheet, and he confirmed they could work with the information. Job done.For older codgers like me, change is unwelcome. We hate it. If it isn't broken why fix it? So it's great to know there are still accountants out there who don't try to reinvent the wheel.Jason and his team have been superb in my first year with them, and I couldn't recommend them highly enough.If you have any odd questions, Jason is quick to reply.In summary, it's a well run business who take an interest in their clients. They know their stuff and keep things simple, which is great for idiots like me. The annual charge, from what I've seen, represents excellent value for money.So what's not to like? I was recommended this accountancy firm by my friend and thank God he did. I needed help with a specialist tax/trust issue for my mothers trust fund her financial advisor had dropped in her lap for her to do. My mother is 86 and couldn’t deal with this paperwork…neither could I for that matter. I dealt with the owner Jason Short who agreed to file this trust issue with HMRC. His price was competitive and completely transparent with no surprises! All my emails were answered in a friendly and professional manner… Jason managed to get this proverbial headache done and dusted in under two days flat despite being a new regulation from HMRC!! Wow! I am extremely disappointed with the service I received. I initially notified Rohith and also emailed Ratnam regarding my VAT issue. On 14th April, I was assured that the process would take around 3 weeks. I waited patiently, but I received no update from their side.I also contacted them multiple times on WhatsApp, and each time I was told that they were working on it and that it would be completed within 3 weeks. Now it has been almost a month, and after following up again today, I was suddenly told to contact another number.This has been very frustrating and feels highly unprofessional. They charge £15 per week for their services, but the level of communication and support has been very poor.I also noticed several negative reviews from other clients, and it seems they are not taking feedback seriously. FSL was recommended to me by a close friend when I had a complicated tax dispute with HMRC. I had no idea what the letters meant or how to sort the problem. We have been with Jason and his team for 17 months now. Jason and his team are absolutely fantastic, always there to give sound advice, help, and above all a very friendly service. I can not recommend Short & Sons highly enough.I am a small sole trader & like to know my accounts are in order.S&S made the whole process so easy. I was dreading stacks of paperwork and receipts blah blah but it was such an easy process.
