With exceptional expertise in both structural engineering and building-works execution, Sandstone Engineering delivered a highly bespoke renovation project on my 1940s ground floor maisonette.
I wanted to extend into the garden, fix a flat roof & add skylights, move several supporting walls, remove a fireplace, replace plumbing & electrics, fix a collapsing garage, and add a covered & decked back porch.
I only wanted these changes completed to 1st fix so I could do 2nd and final fixes gradually room by room to achieve the highest standard of finish in my budget. I asked Sandstone Engineering to also pick anything I was uncomfortable with finishing myself like completing the roofing and similar jobs.
With crumbling brick and a resident living upstairs throughout, this was a challenging renovation project.
The firm is led by Safi, and my dealings with him inspired confidence. Our project was planned out in a detailed contract document containing a highly reasonable milestone payment plan. Safi is a structural engineer who graduated from a top class university. This came through in the way he dealt with me, I felt I was dealing with a highly competent colleague at work rather than a builder. He leads an international team and took care to make sure every detail that came up along the way was sorted according to my preferences. But it’s worth noting that their core team does not contain electricians so this portion of work was subcontracted by Sandstone Engineering to another company at their own risk. Nonetheless I found overall communication about everything easy and natural with Safi.
Sandstone Engineering performed the structural designs and building works. As they were in charge for both, I am massively satisfied with the structural integrity of the outcome. I even recall that the building inspector was impressed by the foundations, and the architects were very complimentary about the quality of the structural engineering plans. I personally found the carpentry on the roof and outside decking to be of exceptional quality.
In summary, Sandstone Engineering's offers a remarkable mix of skills, expertise, and dedication. I highly recommend speaking with Safi and taking Sandstone Engineering into consideration for your project.

A good trade review and the fact that Sandstone Engineering are local to us led us to engage them. We already had an architectural design for the remodelling of our ground floor and approached Safi and Naseem for the necessary structural drawings and calculations.
The build involves extending the ground-floor accommodation at the rear of our house, taking down load-bearing internal and external walls, removing a chimney breast and designing the floor to accommodate underfloor heating throughout the ground floor.
Having taken on board findings from trial pits and CCTV drain survey, Naseem and Safi have assembled a structural pack suitable for building regulation submission and for use by builders. They've been admirably responsive to questions from us, our architect and building contractors. Being very approachable and easy to work with, they have patiently explained relevant technical issues to us and have had several detailed meetings with our architect to find solutions that help with the build and reduce building costs.
We wholeheartedly recommend Sandstone Engineering for their technical knowhow and for their friendly and personal service. They were fully committed to our project and supported and advised us not only on the structural aspects but also on matters that probably went beyond the scope of their work. This young and professional company deserves to do well.
As construction approaches, we feel content that Sandstone Engineering will be as responsive as ever if we need further advice or if the builder encounters practical challenges.

Structural Calculations
Providing the necessary structural calculations for projects such as: extensions, loft conversions, load bearing wall removals & chimney removals.
Structural calculation are a legal obligation in order to comply with part A of building control.

Easy to understand structural drawings that can be used for building control application as well as to allow contractors to bid for the project.
Structural Inspection
Structural inspections to assess the structural integrity of Domestic buildings. Our inspections are accompanied with a recommendation letter or a report to further explain the findings of the structural engineer.
