I had experienced difficulty hiring a photographer at relatively short notice, and many local photographers had not responded to my query, were busy, or were charging a very high rate. What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
I believe it is a combination of lighting and timing that contributes to a great photograph. I find this works particularly well for more candid shots; so many people find themselves fearing posed photos, we all get so conscious about our looks, our movements, the position of our hands, and we try so hard to avoid blinking that we inadvertently end up blinking far more often than usual, all of which can make posed shots an unpleasant experience. I believe the best shots happen when you catch people off-guard, when they do not know they are being photographed and their true movements and personality shines through, that is when the magic happens.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Before I take on any photography job, whether it be an event or a shoot, the main details I require are:
- Date and time required. If it is at a stage were exact timings haven't been decided on, it would be good to know approximately how long I will be needed, whether it be just for a couple of hours at the beginning of an event, or whether my services will be needed for the full day on an open-ended basis.
- Location. This is important as it helps me to take into account the travel and timings required for the event. If the venue is known this is also helpful so I can decide on the equipment needed.
- Budget. With events such as weddings and parties, I have certain set packages on offer, however I understand everyone has different budgets so I am willing to be flexible and provide bespoke quotes where required. Providing a budget is a really helpful detail so I can see which of my services or packages will suit your needs and your budget.
What do you love most about your job?
The people, no question. I love meeting people from all over the country at events they have organised specifically to spend time with their family, friends or colleagues. There is always so much love in the room and it is truly wonderful to see and capture.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
Based on the nature of photography, it is not possible to provide the bulk of my services online because I need to be physically in the room to capture the magic of events. However I can provide quotes, consultations and pre-event meetings online if this is required to discuss the job in more detail, and post event work is all done online with communication via email and photos shared via an online album.
Wedding Photography
I provide adaptable and versatile photography packages to suit a variety of wants and needs, capturing portraits, candids and all the little details for you to cherish.
From intimate city hall ceremonies to lavish all-day events, every wedding day is unique to that special couple, and that is what I aim to reflect in the final photos.
All bookings involve photos being delivered via a password protected album for high-resolution downloads, and in several packages I offer USB and Albums to be delivered after the event.
Event Photography
I love covering events of all sizes and backgrounds and meeting people from all over celebrating something special to them. Be it a corporate event, a charity ball, a school proms or a family reunion/party, I love capturing those special moments which make up our busy lives.
I usually adopt a "fly on the wall" approach and aim to be as unobtrusive as possible to allow those natural, beautiful moments and reactions to shine through, but in addition to this I am more than happy to take requests throughout the night to make it as special as possible for you.

Portrait Photography Services
I provide portrait photography sessions for those looking to capture a family day out, a modelling session for their portfolio, or a proposal in action!
I primarily work outdoors or in public spaces as oppose to a studio setting as I much prefer the natural light approach, and I am always open to ideas and to adapt to your preferences.

Corporate Photography Services
I work with corporations of all types and sizes, capturing events such as team away days and conferences, and providing images for marketing materials and promotion such as team headshots and day-to-day candid images.
I usually adopt a "fly on the wall" approach to events and aim to be as unobtrusive as possible to allow those natural reactions to shine through, but in addition to this I am more than happy to take requests to adapt to my environment. As for corporate headshots, I always aim to keep these informal and natural to reduce nerves and ensure my subject's natural personality shines through.
Nature Photography Services
Outside of events and portrait sessions, I love getting out in nature and capturing wildlife, landscapes and the natural world in all its glory.
