What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
When photographing people it's about rapport and timing. The customer needs to feel relaxed and confident and and, for me, knowing when to catch the moment to make it as natural and true to the customer's wishes as possible.
For product photography, organisation and meticulous detail are paramount. Of course there is plenty that can be done afterwards but getting it as close to right first time will save everyone time and money.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Before starting it a question of getting the customer to articulate what they really want, which is often different to what they first say. Also making them aware of what the possibilities are if they are not sure. And understanding what look or feel they have in mind - have they seen something that has inspired them?
What do you love most about your job?
Meeting the client! So many different personalities and every need is different. I like to think I can get along with pretty much anyone....which is a good start. And if at the end the client is happy that of course ticks all the boxes.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I had worked in a corporate marketing environment for many years and worked alongside very many talented creative people, often wishing I had their job.....so I wanted a new challenge to see if I could put what I had learnt to practical use.
