Unfortunately, after being a client of Jaccountancy for approximately five years, my experience with the firm has ended extremely negatively. Throughout the relationship there were occasions where deadlines were missed, which caused frustration and concern. I also found the tone and manner of some communications, particularly towards the end of the relationship, unnecessarily rude, dismissive and unprofessional. In my view, this is not how a long-standing client should be spoken to when raising genuine concerns about their account and contractual arrangements. The situation deteriorated significantly around the latest renewal. I was sent new engagement documentation which included a substantial increase in my monthly fee. I did not sign the new agreement or expressly agree to the increased fee. When I subsequently asked to end the relationship, I was informed that the agreement had automatically renewed for another 12 months and that I was liable for an early termination charge based on the remaining fees for that period. I disputed this, including whether I had agreed to the new renewal terms and increased monthly charge, and raised concerns through the firm’s complaints process. What followed was, in my experience, extremely disappointing. Despite attempts to resolve the matter, Jaccountancy commenced County Court proceedings against me personally. The claim is disputed and I am defending it. Something else I subsequently became aware of, which prospective clients may wish to consider when carrying out their own due diligence, is a publicly available disciplinary decision published by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) on 12 May 2026 concerning Jay Wilson, trading as Jaccountancy (UK) Limited and Then Tax Refunds Limited. The published AAT decision records a finding of misconduct and details a number of matters, including failures concerning anti-money laundering procedures and client due diligence, receiving and retaining commissions without notifying and obtaining consent from relevant clients, client-money compliance issues, and an incorrect licence renewal application submitted to AAT. According to the published AAT decision, the resulting order included a three-year reprimand, a £6,500 fine and three years ineligibility to apply for fellow membership. For clarity, the AAT disciplinary decision relates to separate matters and is not a finding concerning my own contractual dispute. I would encourage anyone interested to read the published AAT decision themselves rather than simply relying on my summary. After approximately five years as a client, I am extremely disappointed that the professional relationship has ended this way. My advice to anyone considering using Jaccountancy would be to carry out their own due diligence and read every part of the engagement documentation extremely carefully, particularly anything relating to automatic renewal, notice periods, fee increases, early termination charges and personal guarantees. I’ve used Jaccountacy for 3 years and have now left them. Despite paying for a full years accounts they won’t prepare the final accounts unless I subscribe for another year claiming they have done them this year (the previous year’s accounts that I had already paid for) During the last year I’ve had an accountant that didn’t realise they needed receipts to see what VAT could be reclaimed and was told they would provide accountants training on ‘VAT documentation procedures’. Jay was looking into this but never bothered getting back to me. Ive had a data breech where my complaint was sent to someone outside of the company.
